Does anyone know if there is any difference in feel/quality/thickness between Kona's cotton solids, and Moda's Bella solids??

I have no idea if any of our local quilt shops (not the three where I live, but in the city and others) carry either. I bought a few pieces of Kona cotton solids when I was in Hawaii, but have not seen the Moda Bellas to compare. Most would be used for piecing, but also applique - I think the Kona might be a bit thick for that (as is the Heritage cottons from Fabricland) - but that may just be the nature of the beast - solids being a slightly thicker fabric.

Any help/comments/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Gerda

Gerda... I haven't actually purchased the bella,  but from what I've heard bella is a little lighter and closer in weave..... I wonder if it would be less "stringy" than the Kona for hand applique.

not sure they have the color selection that Kona has.... Kona has over 250 colors.

I've always used Kona black for solid black, but recently found some Michael Miller "Jet black" and I got a yard to try.  I marked the selvage with a label stapled on so I could keep track of which one I use.

Thanks, Denise - I think Moda has just over 100 colours right now, from what I've seen. I have tried appliqueing with the Kona, and it's rather thick.

The black I have is Kona, because a previous shop owner special ordered a bolt when our guild did our Amish lotto block/bom - the other colours I have - no idea!! lol I never thought to label them - smart you!!
