Random quote: Laughter which cannot be suppressed is catching. Sooner or later it washes away our defences, and undermines our dignity, and we join in it -- ashamed of our weakness, and embittered against the cause of its exposure, but no matter, we have to join in, there is no help for it -- Mark Twain

Hello!

Cindy ... if this will be after the first of the year, I would be willing to co-host and I would like to be ORANGE ...

Jess's plan sounds good to me ... I had no idea how to go about this ...

Whatever size strips is decided upon is fine with me ...

Milica ... if this turns out to be a "go" after the first of the year and you want to participate, I would be happy to be your "personal shopper" and buy your strips for you and send them over the pond ...

Just a question...if we reduce the size of the center block, would you loose the "stair step look" going around the quilt? (am I making sense?)

I'd sign up for red or blue...which ever you need me to shop for.

Pat - thanks very much for your offer - I may take  you up on that but you know that I am the type of girl who likes to stroke fabrics, YES I AM A FABRICAHOLIC!!! lol

I had an email from Connecting Threads this morning and guess what? they are doing a special on Rainbox fabrics - I am posting the link (if that's ok with you Jess) as they have graduating colours. Hope this works.

http://www.connectingthreads.com/Rainbow+Fabrics+Hand+Dyes+Quilting+Fabric_CD989.html?&show=all?pid=1&kid=1074&medid=BE081124&media=BE081124&email=milica.e.nunn@btinternet.com

I am very tempted but most control myself - lol

Cindy - don't be jealous now - a lady of leisure (as I am presently!!) always has her personal shoppers.

Good Morning!

Milica ... I hope you do take me up on the offer ... it would be so nice to have participate ... and you will get to fondle all the fabric that way ... and make a quilt with us!

I got that same ad in my email box this morning.  I still have not ordered from Connecting Threads, but they do keep tempting me with their sales and reasonably priced fabrics ...   I am realy thinking of ordering one of these "rainbow" packs to see the quality ...

Maybe we should start the planning for this swap on paper so we can shop the sales over the holidays and then mail sometime after the first of the year???

How about it, Ms.Tassels... ?????

that sounds like a great plan! Yellow (my favorite) is already spoken for, but I'll be happy to take on green or whatever other color is needed. I'm picturing some of Patrick's fabrics in this quilt. I'd be happy to have it in any size. I love the concept of it, and I think this would be a very cheerful project for the middle of winter.

I'd offer to co-host, but I don't think that would be wise at the moment. If my situation should change after the first of the year, though, I'm up to help out wherever I can.

I have been thinking about this quilt all day today and have come to the decision that I might dye my own fabrics for this project and will therefore wait until the spring when I am well enough to do so.   Whilst I was doing my City and Guilds qualification a couple of years ago we did a lot of procion dying and plastic bag dying and came up with some beautiful designs and colours and this way I should be able to get the colour graduations that I want.

I will follow this thread avidly though as I want to see all that everyone is making so I can get my daily needed patchwork fix! lol

Absolutely Milica, you are always welcome to post links to great buys!

Jenn - If blue is still open, I will trade you yellow for the blue. We organized my stash when Mom got here, and I have loads of blue.

Not to overcomplicate things ladies, but.... well there is this fabric out there that comes with 4 shades of a color on a bolt - they are seperated parrallel with the selvage so you get all of the shades on every cut. I could purchase that for the store, and it would work great for this quilt. I am excited about doing a swap, but thought I would throw that out there just in case.

If we have more than one group sign up, we could do one of the two groups with batiks.... that might be fun.... Sorry, am I putting too many additional options out there???

Jess do you have a link of the fabric you're talking about? I'm not entirely sure I'm picturing what you describe...

Just a random chance question but are you able to purchase any of Patrick Lose's fabrics? He has some that would be fabulous for this swap.

Okay, Milicia ... please keep in much that the offer stands anytime you want to join a fabric swap and are concerned about mailing issues.    Your idea to dye your own fabrics sounds like the perfect idea for a very special one of a kind color wheel quilt.  Since I am not ready to take on such a challenge, though,  I will enjoy seeing your work in pictures.

I was browsing a quilt magazine today while I was standing in line at Jo-Ann fabrics to buy batting and found a beautiful new fabric line called "Nature's Palette" for Northcott by Lyndhurst Studio  that is available in pastel to dark colorways ...

http://www.northcott.net/index.cfm?action=fabric&fabCatID=1&collectionID=265&colorwayID=438

These are just "gawjus"!

I need to stop looking for fabric ...   Pat

Jess,
Are you talking about something like Sewbatiks 'graduations'? See http://www.sewbatik.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=121

Pat, those are the ones I was thinking of. Sally, those you posted are gorgeous too!

Jenn - I can get pretty much any fabrics I want. Patrick has some nice blender lines, but his are far from my favorites. I just haven't found room in the budget for an entire blender line yet. Maybe next summer....
