I've been building tablerunners and using Grandma T's hankies as the medallion.  There were 6 girls in Mom's family, so I'm making 6 runners which will be given to someone in those 6 families at our Tollefson reunion July 9.  Got 1 finished yesterday and have been having a fun time remembering Grandma and the 6 girls.  Only 2 are living still.  The hankies were given to me by my aunt Jeaniene (Mom's sis).  Time to get them out and do something with them.

Would love to see photos of the runners.

Here's one of the runners.  I haven't stitched any of Grandma's hanky's on yet.  Does anyone have suggestions for how to do that?  Don't want to mess up her stitching or embroidery but still want them attached to the top of the runners.  Have 6 in the works so far - each one is based on the size and color of her hanky.

Those are beautiful sandy!
What about a duplicate hemstitch ( by hand) done in the same needle holes as the original hemstitch?
If you use a fine thread it would hide in the crochete thread and there would be no additional holes. Then the crochete edge would remain loose and preserve the look.
Nancy z did a runner one day on her show using vintage crochete doilies. She starched them first but
I cant remember how she attached them.
The colors and design you created show them off soo well!

Thanks for the idea, Trish.  I'll have to break out my needlework bible and relearn the hemstitch.

Very nice, Dorian! I'm impressed!! It's all I can do to follow a pattern, can't imagine trying to design one myself!

That's really pretty, Dorian! I like the way you used the different colored sashing, and only sashed some of the blocks.

Sandy, I really like your table toppers, and what a great idea for displaying your grandma's hankies! They will be very special keepsakes.

Thanks Donna. I was trying to break up the pattern a little bit as the pattern is so busy!
