Hi Ladies,

Since Cindy has started the Friday night sew-in for this month on Friday, Jan 24th, she asked me to post our next Pine Ridge quilt project, so you can make blocks for this, if you choose.

 So here it is:

2014 FEBRUARY/March Pine Ridge Quilt Project

 Project Coordinator:    Sharon Z (quiltingmama20)

Block Size:    10-inch finished  (10 ½ -inch unfinished)

Quilt Size:      Lap/Twin – approx 64" x  74" - 30 blocks total

Block Pattern:  Wedding Rings 2 at Quilters Cache   http://www.quilterscache.com/W/WeddingRings2Block.html

The Deadlines: Sign-ups by Feb 28th, but blocks, border, binding, batting, and backing should be received by the piecer by March 30th.

Quilters, if possible, please send a dollar or two to help with the postage costs incurred by our Piecer and Quilter who will send the completed quilt to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota!!  They are both on Social Security limited incomes and will be sending all the quilts we make, so they can use all the $$ help possible.

PLEASE make sure your blocks measure 10 ½” unfinished, as it makes the Piecer’s job soooo much easier! Thank you!!!

PRE-WASH ALL FABRICS BEFORE CUTTING, PLEASE.  The top for this quilt will have a layout of 5 blocks across x 6 rows down, a 3 " unfinished border 1, a 5” unfinished border 2, and a 3 ½ " binding. The quilt size will be approximately 64” x 74”.

Colors:  Shades from light tan to medium rusty browns to dark brown – just as the pattern shows.  Colored fabrics can be solids, tone-on-tones, small prints, or small geometrics, as we will be making this quilt for a man, so masculine fabrics.

Border 1 Fabric: 6 strips of a medium-light fabric at 3” x WOF or ½ yard of uncut fabric –Sharon

Border 2 Fabric: 7 strips of a medium-dark fabric at 5” x WOF or 1 yard of uncut fabric-Milica-recd 2/21

Batting:    69" X 79"  (or $$ for Quilter to purchase a Twin batting) -  Sandy-recd 3/31

Backing Fabric:    5 ½  yards of Medium to Dark Brown Print  (or $$ for quilter to purchase fabric) -  Denise - recd 5/5

Binding Fabric:   9 strips of Dark Brown at 3 ½” x WOF or 1 yard of uncut fabric -

(Please remember it is perfectly acceptable if two or more want to go in together to purchase the batting or backing fabric as these can sometimes be the most expensive part of the quilt.)

Label: Denise-recd

Piecer:  Sharon Z

Quilter: Ann

Anyone else interested in volunteering to help with this project?  We need lots more blocks and the rest of the parts, too.

Thanks,

Sharon

Sharon, once I get this QOV top pieced, I'll see what I have in these colors. I don't want to commit to anything right now, but I'm sure there must be some of these colors in my stash

Ladies, something happened yesterday which was really amazing.  I was at work and a gentleman came into my office for an interview with the child services dept.  he had an American accent so I asked him where he originated from and he told me that he had been in the uk for just over ten years but he was born and brought up till ten years ago on the Pine Ridge Native American Reservation in South Dakota and he then went on to say that I probably had never heard of it.  I told him about this group and the quilts that we make and send on to Pine Ridge.  I asked if he knew Larry And Cindy Marshall (Sandy's brother who died) he said he knew both of them .  I spoke with Sandy last night and she has heard of him from her brother before.  His name is Bill Cummings which apparently is a well know name within the Community.

It certainly proves what a small world we live in.

Milica, it was so nice talking with you the other day.  I remember Larry and Cindy talking about Mr Cummings.  What a small world indeed!  Thanks for sharing!   Hope today is a good one for you!
