Oh the weather outside is frightful......

and man is it ever!!!! We here in the mid-west have been visited by Old Man Winter and he sure is letting us know who'e the boss is.  And it ain't no puny humans!!  Steve was out in it for a while with a second towing bill and another van repair this afternoon but now he is now safe & sound here @ home in front of a roaring fire that I had waiting for him when he came in.

So this weekend is being kicked off with power outrages and high winds.  So I have been doing some hand stitching on a stocking wall hanging that needs to go out in the mail come Monday and I have another little one that just needs the 3 B's so it can go too.  I'm hoping that the power is ready to play nice with me this weekend.

So is anyone else wnating to join me in that last minute frenzy of Holiday sewing marathon?  I know I can't be the only one looking at putting in some last minute hours.  Time to break out the crockpot and make a big ole serving of "so yeah dear family you're on your own this weekend.  There is the kitchen... figure it out."  LOL.

So tonight is the 1st of our Secret Santa Opening Day.... sure hope you will join us as we have made it the end of the Mayan Calendar  & we are still here.  So Yeah US!!!!!

Toodles,
Tricia

Worked on the pirate quilt yesterday.... it needs its top and bottom border, and then it's ready for sandwiching......

My family's dinner is tonite..... need to leave home around 4 pm or so.....  it's across town at my nieces' this year.    I picked up the 4 pies at Costco yesterday.... 2 pumpkin... 2 apple.... the coolwhip is in the fridge thawing, and I have 1 can of real whip cream.......  should probably stop and get a container of  vanilla ice cream for the apple on the way.

ready for the shower, and then some breakfast......  we slept in until 8:30 this morning.....  went to an "end of the world party last night that was also a suprise birthday party for a friend of ours who turns 66 today.  Had a great time, but were out later than normal.

Tricia.... the snow sounds like it's really hit you.... an the roaring fire sounds delightful.    Today is sunny here,  but more rain expected later this week.

Oh my how quiet it has been today.  Just thought I would stop in and see all that was going on.  I spent a good chunk of my day with my blog for the week as Steve was catching up on some much needed sleep.

Sooooo does this mean everyone is in their sewing areas pedaling your way thru that last minute crunch?  I spent some time in what I call my "design-mode" today working on a concept for a project in my near future.  And now I'm heading for my comfy seat to finish the last bit of hand appliqueing on my stocking wall hanging so that tomorrow I can sit down at the machine to knock the finishing work for the mail come Monday.  Sounds like the winds have died down so the threat of power outrages has dropped drastically. Yeah!! Rather than that nothing too exciting to report.

Well I'm off y'all!

Toodles,
Tricia

I'm here! Been checking in all day, just nothing to say. I've been cutting pieces for our friend Bryan's quilt and I'm totally bored with it. I have to say, cutting is my least favorite part! I cut the pieces for my January swap blocks and started my January birthday block, so I have made some progress.

I made lasagna for dinner which was pretty tasty! Tomorrow we have morning and night church and a party in between, plus I need to go to the grocery store for the items we are taking for Christmas, so probably no sewing for me again till Wednesday.

It was a rough start to the day.......the leg has decided it is really ticked......since the treatment the specialist did it has not been happy. The nurse figures a 3 month setback....it has burnt my spot twice the size...not a good reaction at all. So an emotional night & late start.....

I have everything wrapped & a little tree decorated.....Now that is amusing Ms Miai.....It is only 3 ft and sits on the coffee table. She loves the big snowman heads.....she stretched to bat at them.....little rascal. So that is good

Dear SIL to be did a wonderful thing **** delivered the Popeye Express train quilt to its new owner. A2 hr drive away.....so nice for the sweet little old couple..

Excuse the weird punctuation that silly green stuff on the keys is playing around.

Now I hope to sew the next step in EASY STREET...I have kept up so far...yeah.
So a quite night of Christmas music and the hum of my sewing machine to sew for me...with no deadlines. WOW it has been ages since I could do that......

Thanks for sharing everyone...have fun Donna. We had sunshine but very very cold and windy. However NO SNOW.

Denise you have fun , cant wait to see the pirate quilt.

Trish...awwww baked bread yum...it would go good with my pot of homemade soup. Rib stickin good.

Catch you all tomorrow

Hugs and stitches

Debbieann

Debbieann, I'm so sorry about the setback on your leg! Makes you wonder how great the specialist is, doesn't it? I'm glad you and Ms Miai are enjoying your little tree. :) We have a little one like that, but this year we put up the big tree. I'm glad your SILTB delivered the quilt for you - that was really sweet!

Are you making Easy Street in Bonnie's colors? I've been saving the steps...waiting to see what the finished product looks like. LOL

Well... on the quilty progress..... i now have 2 quilts  sandwiched, pin basted and ready for quilting!  I just got off the floor.... stretching my knees before I go make breakfast.   Then I need to wind some bobbins and get to it!

I'm doing simple ditch quilting around the blocks in both of these quilts.... using soft and brite batting  so want the quilt to remain fluffy and llofty.   This is my favorite batting for quilts for kids.....   I may do some loose  free motion on the borders of both.... but am hoping to get both quilted today and tomorrow... then it's back to the wolf quilt.

I'm signing up for the mystery quilt..... but don't know yet if I'll start it just yet.... same as easy street.... I have enough of Bonnie's colorway to do it, but waiting just a bit before I start.... really want to move some UFO's along the way.

I have a totally new project to start thinking about..... My niece got engaged on Tuesday.... Wedding is April 27.... and I have some quiltin to do.......  she tried on 5 dresses yesterday, so her life is a whirlwind right now.....  (These two kids, (she's 24).... have both had purity rings since they were pre-teens..... and they first started dating this last spring.   They are saving their first kiss for their wedding, so at this point, they are now very anxious to start their life together, and decided 4 months was long enough.   I'm starting a new tradition..... I have previously made wall hangings for wedding gifts..... but I've decided to make this couple two lap quilts.... (actually more twin size)..... so last night at dinner I asked Katy if she and Chris had talked colors yet.... and she said they are going to register today....

I think they will decide on something simple and contemporary in style.....  I suggested two coordinated  quilts in color, and feel, but each with a slightly different twist to them.... (possibly opposite colorways)   but I will work up a few ideas on EQ and let her make a decision as to basic style and colors,  then I'll let the final result  be a suprise.     I'm going to play with some very large disappearing nine patch to see what it looks like set on point.

Well,  DH is asking for his pancakes... so I better get to moving... the sooner he eats, the sooner I get to start winding bobbins.

Trish... our dinner was great.... lots of people, and not enough time to visit with everyone.

Debbieann- so sorry to hear that the latest treatment wasn't a success.  Prayers for your healing continue.

Tricia... do we get to see pics of your stocking wall hanging when its done?

Donna - sounds like your next couple of days are packed full.  remember to breathe somewhere inbetween all the action.

I have finished a mini bow tucks bag for a Christmas gift, and just realized while reading everyone's posts that I did not even take a picture of it!!! It's wrapped, and so I will have to remeber to take a picture tomorrow night!! I am making a screen mesh tote bag now (half done) and finisheing the binding on a tree skirt for a wedding gift for next weekend. (Note to self: take pictures!!)

I am debating on next weekend's mystery too.... I too, have not finished the last one and we have a wedding on Saturday. A couple nights ago Wayne's cousin called and asked if I would help out with inventory at her quilt shop on Dec 30, so I know I'll be tied up all weekend. Maybe I'll just order it and save it for later.

My goal for 2013 is to finish 6 quilts that are currently taking up residency in my sewing room. I feel that it is realistic, and I would love to have that many off of my UFO list. I am also going to try and finish a 'small' project each month. (ex. a tablerunner, purse, wallhanging etc). I am putting this in writing so that I can refer back to my goals and maybe soome of you can gently remind me to keep plugging away on these things (thanks, in advance!)

Well, I have gifts to wrap, groceries to buy, desserts to make (not sure what kind) and football to watch!! And Wayne told me the other night that I have to work bingo tonight as some of the scheduled workers are at the Packer game or have other committments.

So I guess it's no rest for the wicked.... (I must really be a BAD person!!).... or is it that if you want something done, you ask a busy person to do it??!!

Merry Christmas all!!

progress update..... 2 1/2 hours of quilting... and I am ready to do the borders of the pirate quilt... all the inside work is done....  the outside edge of the border is basted down... so it's ready for some freemotion work.   Time for a tuna sandwich.... and then I think I'm meeting Trish and Dorian in the chat room soon.....

Midge... you really are busy!   Is that screen bag difficult to do?   want to see pictures!

Denise-
The screen bag isn't done yet, but I bet if I had an hour to concentrate on it, I could have it done.
It's just a large piece of the plastic screen mesh. a "tube" of 2 different fabrics (with batting inside) measure down so far, sew the bottom of the pocket on each side. Then you take webbing for the handle stitch that on (like in a big oval) that will form your pocket dividers. Your put like a binding strip on the top, sew the side seams and bind them, All that is left is to make the "box" style bottom, and voila!! you are done.

I am so confident that it will be finished yet tonight or early tomorrow that I went to the quilt shop today and bought another coclor combination to make another last minute gift!!

Better head out to bingo-- the natives get restless if you aren't there early enough for them, but hey, the KCs make big $$$ on those bingo babes!!

Merry Christmas in case I can't check in tomorrow!!

Well, I not only finished the mesh screen tote that I was making Saturday and Sunday, but today I made another one!! This one went together in about 3 hours after I made the first one, and knew what to do and how I could take a few shortcuts (like doing all the cutting at once instead of as you go). And now I know that with my machine, I should have 3 bobbins ready!!

Merry Christmas everyone!!
