Please keep Cindy Marshall in your good thoughts and prayers.  A few months ago, she got typhoid then got malaria.  Last weekend she was hospitalized for 3 days with dehydration.  She seemed to be getting better, but in the last 2 days has gotten much worse and according to her mother, "Cindy's not even coherent".  World Hope International (the missionary company she's working with) is making arrangements for her to be medivac'ed out of Liberia.  Her insurance of course has to have "prior approval" so nothing can be done until that happens.  She's been in Liberia on her own for over a year working with the well diggers she and my brother, Larry, worked with before.  We'd sure like her to get better and come on home.  Thanks for your prayers.

Cindy was admitted to a hospital in Monrovia, Liberia on Sunday with a severe case of Typhoid fever.  As of yesterday afternoon, the Dr's there thought they could treat her with antibiotics they had on hand and would not agree to have her medivaced out to London.  Please keep her on your list of prayers so the meds will work.  She's been ill for over 3 months.    Thanks,     Sandy (and Cindy's boys)

Jordan (Cindy's son here in SD) wrote: "They approved it but not in the way we were expecting. Doctors for the insurance company and the doctor in Liberia say she is well enough to fly commercial. So they are sending her on business class so she can lay down. After I expressed concerns about her being so sick and traveling alone they decided to pay for one of her friends to travel with her. She will be transported via ambulance to and from airports and assistance in any airports along with a room in any airport with extended layovers so she can rest. We haven't heard which hospital they will send her too but they were trying to get one near Nate (Cindy's son in England) to accept her (in Cambridge)"

Sandy

Thanks for the update on your SIL - please let me know where in England because if it is in Cambridge then that is only 1.5 hours away from me and maybe I could pop in and see when she is on the mend.

Oh Milica, I would be ever so grateful, if you could pop in on her (if that's where she does really go).  Here's what Nathan had to say in his facebook note:

Nathan wrote: "Cindy will be leaving Liberia Friday evening with her good friend Freeda. She will be arriving in the UK on Saturday morning and then she will be transported via ambulance to the hospital. Latest info that we were given was that she would be at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge."

Won't really know until it actually happens, and I'm not sure how long it will take for Cindy to be on the mend.  Will let you know when we do.  Thank you for offering!

Thanks everyone for your prayers for Cindy.  Here's the latest note from her DIL, Charity:

She was admitted last nite into the Wellington Hospital, where Nathan met her at the Acute Assessment Unit. He had bought her fruit and sandwiches, and he said she ate everything and loved the fruit. She was in good spirits, and he said she looked better than he expected, but that she was quite pale. They ran tests on her blood last nite as well. Last nite her nurse was from Sierra Leone, and they had a good time talking. She is from a village or town not far from where Larry and Cindy were living the first year over there.

Today they did an ultrasound and X-ray of her stomach, liver, kidneys, and GI tract, and they are still waiting for those results. She didn't have much energy this morning and was even more pale. She didn't really have an appetite at all, and her hemoglobin level had dropped to 5.4. The docs suspected that the malaria had been breaking down the hemoglobin, nd that for some reason her bone marrow was not producing more blood. They began giving her.a transfusion this afternoon, and they were planning to give her 4 bags of blood. By tonite they had only given her 2 bags, but Nathan said it had already made a big difference. She ate some dinner and all of the cheesecake for dessert. :) She has been able to get lots of rest which is good. Nathan said the hospital is really nice, and she is receiving very good care. They had a tropical disease specialist come today, and he doesn't seem too worried. He said that he has seen this before when malaria is improperly treated and lasts a long time. The docs will know more within the next couple days when the results come back. I talked to her tonight and she was communicating well and hadn't lost her sense of humor.

She is at the Wellington Hospital, and their website is:  http://www.thewellingtonhospital.com.   Definitely continue to pray because she has a ways to go in her recovery.                 Charity

Sandy, this sounds like good news! I'm glad she's settled in the hospital in England and it sounds like she's getting good care. Continued prayers!

Hi Sandy

I have heard of the Wellington Hospital, it is very well known.  I called this evening and spoke with Cindy, I think she was a little bewildered to hear from some strange British woman! lol.  Anyway, next time I go to my sister-in-laws then I will check and if she is still at the Wellington then I will pop in and visit with her.
