So sad to hear this news. We will all miss Gerda tremendously - such a sweet lady.

I too have been thinking of her so much recently, wondering, hoping praying for her.
She was truly an inspiration to many. She will be missed, but I guess that God has bigger plans for her.

Haven't been here for some time, but had kept in touch with Gerda...so very sorry to hear she's passed. My heart is heavy right now, she was truly a great help in so many things. She will probably have a quilting group in Heaven as soon as she's settled in..

God be with her family, and bless them. Lots of hugs.

Jean

Thanks Jean, you caused a smile (which have been far and few between today)--not just s quilting group, an embroidery group too, AND she'll be teaching everyone how to find patterns on the web....Given how much pain it's causeing us, I can't really imagine what the family is going through.

PS Just a quick warning for you guys. I posted some pics I had of her with the original message. they made me cry again, so don't go look if you're not ready yet. It's just so hard to believe.
Hey Marian the Librarian, any patterns up there we haven't seen yet??? If any one can find them, it will be you.

I find it so hard to believe she is gone. So many times I think of a block or pattern that I couldn't find and Gerda was always able to find it for me. I can only imagine the loss her family must feel. My prayers go out to her family. Gerda, you are loved and missed.

7 or 8 years ago I made my very first quilt block, a nine patch. A kind quilter from Canada commented on how well my points matched and that she couldn't believe I was a newbie. A couple of years later she encouraged me to start making and publishing patterns. She was a regular member of all of my online quilty groups, a dear friend, and a teacher to me and countless others around the world. I've been describing her as our "librarian" all day, because she was better than google for finding information. "Don't google it, Gerda it," we'd say. I could go on and on about this truly awesome woman. The world is less one quilty superstar today. RIP my friend. You are sorely missed.

When I read the post this morning I just could not comment. It is finally at end of day that I am able to add that I have thought about her a lot after she took ill and could not be among us. When I was among the missing over a year ago she made contact to see how I was doing. Though I didn't get to know her as well as many of you have there is definitely a hole in her spot.
May her family be wrapped in the comfort of family and friends' arms in this very difficult time.

Thank you Sally letting us know and for posting those pictures of Gerda.  I've enjoyed having Gerda as a backup "librarian" and seeing all the quilts and projects she did.  Am so very sorry for her family.  For as much help as she's given on this forum, she must've given them even more.  Imagine her dear grand daughters will treasure the times she took to watch over them.  RIP dear Gerda.  You will be missed!  Hugs going out to her family.

oh ms pat!  i had completely forgotten about those little signature blocks . . . i bet i have one too!  usually gerda signed a seam on the back of her blocks - these were probably the only ones (as far as "swap" blocks are considered) she signed on the front!  thank you for posting the "memory"

Her obituary is online and you can leave a message in the guest book:
from another group that Gerda and I shared (and several of you too, I think)
Hi,
How sad to hear that Gerda died.
I am not very active at the moment, but what a shame, I am mostly lurking.
Here I found a site. Maybe you will be interested.

I had the great priveledge to be Gerda's 'Friend of the Month' in August of 2009. Here's some goodies she sent me. I'm going to find any blocks she made (not already in a quilt) such as sig. block, Stocking block, maybe some Happy Blocks, my Christmas ornies and take pictures....I found the pic she took of her ornaments...

Oh the ornaments! I forgot about them. I just keep looking at the three quilty auntie quilts I have for my babies and wondering which pieces were from Auntie Gerda...

When I was rather 'new' to quilting and 'the boards', I had asked about a pattern for a quilt using CARS as the theme. I had the panel, but had no idea about companion pieces. Gerda was the first one to help me, she sent me the pattern, and I made my DGS a CARS quilt for Christmas that year. I also have the set of pillowcases from the swap a year or so ago, they are on my spare pillows, on my bed everyday; and I have the ornaments, too. I sent her a picture of the cases on my bed and 5 mins later my Boxer was curled up against them, sound asleep..lol She got a kick outa that. I have several blocks from her too.. Even tho she's not with us any longer, she will ALWAYS be with us..

Hugs and RIP dear lady.
