Found my siggy blocks we swapped here plus 'My Favorite' (BC, I think), Happy Blocks (scrappyandhappy) and Stocking blocks (scrappyand happy?). More of my wealth of gifts from Gerda. I know there are others but since she signed the inside of blocks, usually, once they are in quilts it's impossible to know which are hers. I use my wee mugrug/coaster and pin cushion just about every day. I have another larger mugrug at the other sewing machine and that one rotates between the gifts I've received (currently have the one with the wee chick that Dawn made me for my cup and popsicle one from Debbieann and my flip-flops (from Cindy) are on the wall.

What a joy she was. At least I can now post about her without the tears falling.

okay guys--don't you have any pics of things you got from her (or things you sent to her?)
goodness, between BR, scrappyandhappy, smallquilttalk, quilted table, Seasons and goodness knows what else, surly there were swaps out there with really cool stuff. I can't find the 'Because She Loves Red' table topper I made for her or I'd post it, but I bet I can find more blocks from her.......

They laid our beloved Gerda to rest today so I think it only fitting that I share this with you. During one of my down moments today on a long drive home this song came on the radio and I lost it all over again cause I knew she was comforting me! I think this is what she would say to us if she could.

"When I Get Where I'm Going"

When I get where I'm going

On the far side of the sky

The first thing that I'm gonna do

Is spread my wings and fly

I'm gonna land beside a lion

And run my fingers through his mane

Or I might find out what it's like

To ride a drop of rain

Yeah when I get where I'm going

There'll be only happy tears

I will shed the sins and struggles

I have carried all these years

And I'll leave my heart wide open

I will love and have no fear

Yeah when I get where I'm going

Don't cry for me down here

I'm gonna walk with my grand daddy

And he'll match me step for step

And I'll tell him how I missed him

Every minute since he left

Then I'll hug his neck

So much pain and so much darkness

In this world we stumble through

All these questions I can't answer

So much work to do

But when I get where I'm going

And I see my maker's face

I'll stand forever in the light

Of his amazing grace

Yeah when I get where I'm going

There'll be only happy tears

Hallelujah

I will love and have no fear

When I get where I'm going

Yeah when I get where I'm going

RIP sweetest Gerda! We love you and we will always remember you! You took a piece of each of our hearts with you when you left!

Til we meet again!

Don't think of her as gone away
Her journey's just begun
Life holds so many facets
This earth is only one
Just think of her as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years
Think how she must be wishing
That we could know, today
Now nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away
And think of her as living
In the hearts of those she touched
For nothing loved is ever lost
And she is loved so very much.

On Eagle's Wings

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rRea9qnjK4

"You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,
Who abide in His shadow for life,
Say to the Lord, "My Refuge,
My Rock in Whom I trust."

And He will raise you up on eagle's wings,
Bear you on the breath of dawn,
Make you to shine like the sun,
And hold you in the palm of His Hand ..."

Don't quite know what to say, I've just logged on after a very busy week. In tears here. My thoughts and prayers go to Gerda's family. Gerda was one in a million, such a good and loyal friend, I know we will all miss her dreadfully. but we should also remember her and smile, she brought anyone who knew her joy and her warmth of spirit came through in everything she wrote

This is the beautiful table-topper Gerda made for me a couple of years ago as part of a Secret Santa swap. Gerda knew that Red Cardinals are my favourite American bird, this pieced and quilted topper is unique. Gerda always went the extra mile for those she cared for

Someone sent me this poem when my mom died.  We printed it off and put it in a little "memories drawer" that was built into her casket.  Thought it might be appropriate to share it here.

GONE FROM MY SIGHT  by Henry Van Dyke

I am standing by the seashore.

A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze

and starts for the blue ocean.

She is an object of beauty and strength,

and I stand and watch

until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud

just where the sun and sky come down to mingle with each other.

Then someone at my side says, ‘There she goes!

Gone where? Gone from my sight – that is all.

She is just as large in mast and hull and spar

as she was when she left my side

and just as able to bear her load of living freight

to the places of destination.

Her diminished size is in me, not in her.

And just at the moment when someone at my side says,

‘There she goes! ‘ ,

there are other eyes watching her coming,

and other voices ready to take up the glad shout :

‘Here she comes!’
