This was a BOM in 2005 for a local quilt shop. I paid 5.00 in January to participate, and each month I got the next block in a precut fabric pack for free if I brought in the previous completed block.  I loved these blocks, except for the last one, and I bought the book they were from. I did not choose the fabrics, as they were included in the kit each month.  I have a dark dark plum solid I had intended to use to piece these together, and various other colors to make small 8 point stars in the intersections, I just haven't gotten around to putting it together. I really think that I should replace the one block with one that matches the shape of the other 11.  (The one I don't like is the light pink and yellow one that does not have the 8 point star shape for the main block)Old Town Quilts 2005 BOM

those are gorgeous, Jenn! And I, too, can't figure out why they substituted that block when all the others are 8pt stars!! Go figure!! The dark plum will work wonderfully, and I have done that (making stars in my sashing - wow, does that add impact!) go for it!! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled to see the final result. But don't rush on MY account!

RTW, what were you thinking of using for borders?? Is it those blue squares/rectangles off to the side there?

no I have no idea what to use for a border. The blue rectangles are for another UFO. I don't need help on that one other than to get it all sewn. It's huge. When I started it I did not have anywhere I could cut my fabric, and it all started as 4 inch squares that I got from my favorite ebay lady, and I hand cut them all into 4x2 rectangles. I had just over 1200 of them to start. I have enough fabric left over to make a second quilt but not sure if I will or not. I have shades of light, dark, and medium blues, and black. The top I started has just over 1600 rectangles in it and is king size. It's about halfway sewn. Here is the top (as much as I could fit of it on my floor). Believe it or not there really is a pattern there. It started out from the sketch below:

I want to get this one finished for Zach since blue is his favorite color.

Very nice quilts Jenn!!! I too would make a different star for the first one and leave that block out of it. The second quilt is amazing and certainly deserves to be finished!!

alright I'm gonna pull out the book and throw a few pics up here for some opinions as to what block to substitute. That one just does not look right with the others so I don't know what the lady was thinking for choosing that one....

Jenn, Marcia of QuiltersCache did a series last summer (I think) of different 8 pointed stars - hang on.....
http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore54.html I'm not sure if you've got all these in your block set.

Will keep looking as I have time.

Hey, I just realized something!! The two blocks with big triangles on the left and bottom near the left? Those are Judy Martin designs from her book Knockout Blocks!!! It's so nice to see them "in person" so to speak! Cool beans!!

alright, they are officially adopted by you :) I will try to figure out exactly what I wont need to finish this and get the rest packaged up for you. I warn you it will likely be a little while. This thing took me forever to lay out, and I had to pick it all up, though I did make ziploc bags with each row I laid out, it has been so long that I need to put it all back together again to make sure I didn't misplace or miss something. Gerda, all the blocks are from that book! I love the book, it has some really awesome blocks, and with the exception of the last one, all were super super simple to piece together. The last one had 62 pieces in that 12 inch block, and I pieced it twice, but it still came out a little off, which leads me to believe that it wasnt cut correctly, but no worries since I'm not using it! I think I'm going to replace it with this one: If you don't have this book, it is probably one of my favorite ones for innovative updates on traditional designs. I highly highly recommend it!

Hi Jenn! I LOVE the idea of the sashings having the 8 pointed stars as corner stones. That is my favorite sashing idea that I have yet to do.

I really, really, really like the blue quilt! What a beautiful piece that will make! I know that some of the most tedious designs make the most stunning quilts. And in the process, you found a home for your extra bits, wtg!

Beautiful tessellation quilt! And I have that book of Judy's too, I just get too involved in making other blocks, etc, that I have only leafed through it a number of times. And I check out the photo pages she has on her site of quilts made from her patterns. I also have her point trimmer - now if I could just FIND IT!! Oh, and that block you showed would be super with the rest. Go for it!!

I got some solids to make this block today. I noticed in going back that none of these blocks contain primary colors, so I got a royal blue for the star, with red/orange/yellow for the center of the block. I may have time tomorrow to get it whipped up before the mystery quilt is revealed. I still have 3 sides of binding to finish hand-stitching to Kaitlyn's quilt. I cant do much at a time without my hand hurting so I have to do small sections at a time. I got it attached to the front, but only 1/4 on the back, so I'm just over halfway done.
