Kick-Off to 2012 Snug Society
Charity Project Sew-Along Weekend
November 19 & 20, 2011

Thanksgiving Day is next week – a day traditionally set aside to be thankful for all one’s blessings of home, family and friends.  For many, Thanksgiving is also a day to remember others who may not be as fortunate as we are.  This weekend, Jess and I would like to invite you to join us as we work on quilts for our favorite charities.   Jess’ bee group, The Unfinished Stitchers, will gather at her house while I host a cyber-sew-along at the Quilt and Needle forum.  Together we will be working to complete all our prior quilt commitments for our Snug Society projects:  Harmony Home in Texas, the Pine Ridge Native American Reservation in South Dakota and Quilts of Valor as well as quilts for veterans in our own families.  Let’s see what we can do to “clean the slate” of our previous Snug Society projects and be ready for a new year of charitable quilting with the Snug Society!

We invite you to share this worthwhile experience by joining us and working on your own project at home to be donated to your favorite charity in the spirit of the Thanksgiving holiday.  What a wonderful way to enjoy the camaraderie of the most generous people we know, our fellow quilters, and at the same time, participate in an opportunity to do something that will benefit someone who is so in need of the warmth, comfort and love that only a quilt can give.  Let’s see if we can’t clean out our closets of UFO’s and give these quilts a purpose!

If you join our Snug Society Charity Project Sew-Along Weekend, we would love to hear from you and share in your project for your charity.  You may join us on the Quilt and Needle forum or you may email your comments and pictures of your project for your favorite charity to either jess@thequiltandneedle.com or cindy@thequiltandneedle.com.   A big hug and thank you for putting a smile on someone’s face with your efforts this weekend!

Jacqui, you should make something on Sunday to go to a local charity or a person in need that you know of nearby to you! Can't wait to see what you get up to.

The girls will start arriving in an hour or two, and we have soooo much to do! I will take some pics later and post to share. Anyone else joining in?

Hey Jess great idea. I can't play on Sat but I hope to work at it on Sun. I still have one of the charity quilts left from 2010 - Sweet Childs Sept 2010, and several of you pitched in a few more "bear" blocks in Sept this year to get it to a useable size. Thanks. So as long as the leg and things go well that is my project. I will take pics too.

Hugs and stitches

We had a great evening of work!! The girls made backings for a load of quilts ( we were afraid to count, but I would guess btwn 15 and 20) and I made some headway quilting a large one on Violet. We may have done some gabbing as well.... Not sure. ;-)

jess, i hope y'all don't mind!!  The Unfinished Stitchers (jess' bee group) posted a couple of pics on facebook, and since they didn't share here . . .

the first one is laura, and that is jeri on the far far far left there, working on backings for charity quilts.

the second is jess' debut of freehand feathers on violet!

Did they spend the night?   or will they just be back today again to do more gabbing????

I'm off to the shower.... (been up sewing since 5 am, got my secret Santa gift ready to mail,  YEAH!!! ) DH left with 3 buddies to a car swap meet an hour and a half away....

then I'm going to get the QOV blocks remade for Meg's son.. to send to Gerda.... and finish the blocks for Sherry's nephew so they can get sent to Sandy....

Also going to get some labels printed so that I can send one to Cindy, and one to Sandy..... I think that Donna may need one also.... I'll have to check the threads....

I'll be back later, smelling prettier than i do now.

i have been sewing this morning but have now just started on my charity project for the day . . . alas tho, it is not a snug society project, rather it is for my church's ladies' group project.  we've been making fleece lap blankets, bibs, wheelchair/walker totes for our local nursing homes & hospices - about 5 or 6 facilities if i remember correctly.  anyways, i chose to work on totes.  the fabrics were donated and are mostly home dec fabrics so they ought to be good & sturdy totes!!  i have about a dozen i am working on today - will get more fabric when i get these done.  on the last pic, just pretend that i have pressed it, added the velcro to the sides and that it's hanging over a walker arm   btw - there are pockets on both sides of the totes lots of room for our elderly to stash their necessities

I love those Cindy. I've seen them used and they are very handy.

Well, I'm exhausted!! We have 27 quilt tops here. They all have backings, and all but three have batting. Two are ready to send, three need bindings, and three went home with folks to be quilted. We'll keep chipping away at them until they are all complete!! A big thank you to The Unfinished Stitchers for helping out. And thanks to Laura for donating a 96 inch x 30 yard bolt of batting!! It was almost enough. :-) Several forum and bee members donated backings, and The Q&N donated a few bolts to wrap it up. We are well on our way to getting these quilts to new homes!!

Jess, I've been following you on FAebook--what a HUGE number of quilts finished (or almost finished!) WTG (and thanks to Laura for all that batting!)

Jess... do you need labels?   Check out my post in the QOV section...  I would be happy to send you some of that paper so you can print them out at no cost....   I'm mailing a bunch of stuff on Monday... maybe I'll just put a dozen sheets or so in the mail to you "just 'cuz"....  It may be a few more weeks before I go to the post office, due to DH's surgery this coming week.

Way to go, girls!   sounds like a very productive group!

Thanks Sally!! We had lots of fun this weekend, fir a great set of causes.

Denise - labels would be awesome! Thank you so much. I also have four pillow cases. Do we need one for each of the patriotic quilts?
