haha I hear that Jess...

When I was a teenager my mom and I spoke to high school students about the dangers of drinking and driving, after my sister's accident. I remember the first time I went with her to watch her speak, I was sitting on the end of the stage listening to her talk to high school seniors, and she told them about how she used to drink in high school and her and her friends would drive across the border to Mexico (she lived 20 minutes from the border) and never gave a second thought to it....my jaw dropped to the ground. I never knew my mom had ever had a wild side to her. I only knew her as PTA mom that sang in the church choir.... it was weird. haha

I'd love to joint this - as long as you remember that I REALLY am on the other side of the world :)  Jenn - do you need us to send you any info on ourselves - like address, etc for your records?

most swaps would require that, so I guess that if you want to send them to me I'll just keep a list of everyone's contact info on the spreadsheet I started, but do please share this info directly with your partners when it is assigned.

Mary, I'm sure whoever you are partnered with will be sure to take into consideration your location....since this isn't a time-sensitive swap, I don't see it as a problem at all. I think I can safely speak for us all when I say that we'd rather have participants all over the world and wait for slow mail than to exclude anyone just because of where they happen to live. The more varied and vast our backgrounds, the more interesting it makes our group! Besides, how else will some of us ever get the chance to see or get something from another country?! I personally think it's pretty cool to get mail and things from my friends overseas. I giggle everytime I get letters from my friends in Europe. When my friend in England came to visit me a couple of years ago it was his first trip to the states and I got such a kick out of seeing him wide-eyed at things I don't think twice about...like wal-mart, and 6 lane highways...makes you stop and really take a good look at how you live and appreciate things you might otherwise take for granted!

I totally agree with Jenn, just cause some of you are overseas, please don't leave yourself out of this swap. It will be fun and shouldn't be any problem with mail/etc.

are you kidding?  OF COURSE we want gerda, jacqui, mary & midge (did i forget anyone??) and any other new members from overseas to join this if they choose!!  and any other swaps for that matter.

when we played Fabringo on BC and i won, my prize was the FQs that everyone entered to play their cards.  in the pack was 2 south african FQs from mary - i was SOOOO thrilled to get them, not sure they will ever see the sharp side of a pair of scissors!!  they are too precious to me to use LOL

(*psst* don't anyone tell milica, but i got my lines marked and the bobbins are wound . . . so keep your fingers crossed cause this quilt knows whose hands it is in and of course it is natural that it would want to misbehave . . . )

jenn, i'll co-host for ya if you want . . .

I agree that everyone should be allowed to participate. It would not be right if there was something at The Quilt and Needle that excluded people because of their location!

Jenn - I updated the front page and added Mary and Milica for you. Btw, Cindy has this ability as one of our administrators too... so it may be really handy to have her as your co-host!

I would really like to join in, but I think I need to wait a couple months. It looks like we'll be moving into our new house in the next few weeks, which means I'll be packing up most if not all of my sewing stuff, and I don't know if I'd be able to make much during that time. So, Jenn, keep me in mind, please, and I'll join in as soon as I can. This sounds like so much fun! I'm in a redwork swap with two ladies from BC (one in Australia, one in Hawaii) and that is something tiny that I can keep out. But my sewing stuff, nuh uh! It's gonna be in boxes soon. I will let you know when. Thanks, Jenn - this is a great idea!

Gerda - we'll look forward to having you join when you're ready :) I thought you were going to sell the house you built and not move into it at all - must have got my wires crossed.  Good luck with the move !

I'm curious as to how we will be paired - names drawn out of a hat? - makes no difference to me, just curious :)
