I have only seen bowtie blocks made this way before. I like the top stitching idea...the couple of bowties I made were a real pain to quilt because of the loose edges!

Thanks for posting that youtube link - I have only made Bow Tie blocks once before and funnily enough it was just recently.  Our LQS (Sally) organised a ShoeBox swap whereby we make two blocks, can be the same or two different blocks, any size but max 15" and I got to work on Sally's which was the Bow Tie blocks and she included instructions which were the same as the ones on YouTube.  Very quick and easy to do but very different on small squares as Sally's were 4 Bow Tie blocks to make one big block!  Decided I wouldn't be making any more for a while - lol
