here ya go, sue and gerda!!  it is oh so easy-peasy!

Chess Pie

2 eggs
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup melted butter (that's one stick melted)
1/2 cup evaporated milk (NOT condensed!!)
a pinch of salt
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon cornmeal
1/2 teaspoon vanilla (i have used 1 whole teaspoon and IMHO it's just that much better )
1 unbaked pie shell

Mix all ingredients together.  Pour into pie shell.  Bake at 300 degrees Farenheit for one hour until goldenbrown.

enjoy!!!!     i know i will be enjoying this pie later this evening!

Hi Cindy,
While looking in the cooks corner for something special for dinner last evening, I came across your Chess Pie recipe and tried it out.  Unfortunately, I've always got to mess with things... didn't put it in a crust and tried Splenda instead of sugar to cut out calories.  The Splenda sure does leave a nasty after taste!

Imagine a crust would absorb a lot of the butter, but do you think without the crust if I make it again, would half of the butter amount work ok?  The "pudding" or "custard" last night was floating in butter.

{{{{{{{{{{SANDY}}}}}}}}}} i'm so sorry your chess pie turned out so awful!   'course i got to admit . . . some things just should not be "splenda'd"

i don't know a whole lot about the "science" in cooking, but i would think you'd be right that if you omit the crust, you'd need to cut the butter in half.  and hey!  i'm all for experimenting, so go for it and let me know!  i might try a crust-less chess pie this year myself!
