Cotton would lie flatter, better for glasses so they don't fall over, more absorbent for drips; poly would dry faster - maybe a blend, though you can get needled polyester batting. The tutorials I've seen cover all kinds, though cotton is mentioned more often. I think I would go for a flat cotton myself.

Boy, that was helpful - NOT! LOL

Jeri, wonderful hexes and great accent color. Be sure to post more as you go. I haven't tackled hexes...yet!

Debbieann, I'm so glad your layers made it! That makes it 100% received.

Enjoy 'em and keep posting as you all sew.

Just a suggestion, Jeri, try using felt. I have used it for wall-hangings, etc. and it works great. It quilts nicely and lies flat.

Cherie, would I use the felt instead of backing and batting, or just as the batting?

Cherie... do you use the old wool felt? or the new synthetic type?

Inquiring minds need to know....

I buy the premium felt at Joann's. I am pretty sure it is synthetic. I use it in place of the batting and use muslin or a nice fabric for the backing. It really quilts well and the wall hangings hang straight.

It's official...................... ..............I have carved ALL my layer cakes.

I just want to say thanks and many more thanks to all that played in this. The variety was awesome. My Touch of Vegas quilt is looking to FATABULOUS.........

Just finishing up a few minor thing - see the other thread.

Again thanks Annette without you it couldn't have happened.

Can't wait to see what the next one will be like.

I used all my black/white layer cake pieces as well..... not hardly a crumb left! LOL (well maybe some pieces size about 2x3).....

This was a great swap... thanks again Annette!

What is next? Let's see... we've done black and white, patriotic, florals, 30's.....

I'd love to do something like....... civil war / 1800's reproductions ????.... or even batiks (the black hole in my stash) ????.... how about blender fabrics? (You know.... textured looking solids, ie..red on red swirls, marbles, mottled, looks) we could narrow the color range or go total rainbow-).......

Just a couple of ideas.....need to get the thoughts out there!

hmmmmm . . . first we need to see if annette even wants to run another swap . . . or perhaps we have another forum member or two wishing to take on the challenge and hostess a layer cake swap???

as for which fabrics . . . it's only a matter of which one we do next go 'round, don'tcha think?  then the other can be done after that . . .

Hey gals, once I get well, I'm up for another one. Is anyone else interested though? How about one after the first of the year....starting in January and organized in December? Blenders sound wonderful and so do batiks, hmmmmm.

I would co-host for anyone wanting to start one now...

I've started a list, makin it twice, gonna find out , who's
okay, so I can't keep this going!

I do have a list started of the suggestions and we can do a poll to vote on the next theme for a swap. Any more suggestions? Poll is open until December 1. Still open to anyone to host too. I am willing to share....
