Hi friends!!

I received a very special e-mail last week from a friend of the website (she loves to read all that is going on). I will not mention her name, since she has not been a "poster" and probably won't become one, I assume she likes to remain anonymous.

She has 14 quilt tops that she will be sending our way for donation to the charity projects. She and her sister (who recently passed away) enjoyed quilting together. She makes a lot of tops but couldn't find a local charity group that would take tops - they all want finished quilts. With the new machine I purchased, I shouldn't have any trouble finishing up these tops so they can be sent to our three deserving charities. I was very excited to receive this e-mail and to meet such a giving person!!

It looks like I have a load of charity quilt tops headed my way for me to practice on with my new quilting machine. Super!

But....

I don't have a load of batting or backings here for them. Anyone have some extra fabric, batting, or cash they can donate to this cause? I can get batting at wholesale rates and resale it to the charity projects at cost. And I don't have loads of time to piece the backings either. So, if you have some battings, cash, or backings you can donate, please let me know. I will post the sizes I need as soon as some of them reach me here.

Jenn - please post the sizes of the quilts you are also sending my way, so that we can try and find some backings and battings for those as well.

All of the tops I have are lap sized according to our charity guidelines, except for 2 twins, so none of them need huge amounts of backing or batting. I have backings for 3 but not batting (yet). I have 12 tops total waiting to be finished off. The ones I have are all tops for OFR. I do not have any of the I spy tops, just the snug society tops from Feb-April.

I think I could probably turn out most of these in a couple of weekends that I have coming up as it doesn't take me very long to quilt these, but if someone wants to do one or two of them then send them on to OFR that would be great. I do need some labels for the backs as well. I only have 2008 labels left.

Jess, Jenn.... if you could send a list of sizes, and best color combos.... I could look to see what i have in the way of backing amounts....

Jenn - I think I have a piece that would work well for a snug society quilt. It has some red, white and blue on it..... I'll remeasure it to see if it will work for a twin or lap best.

I still have a Ispy quilt to get quilted, but I do have backing for it already, and I just happen to have some batting. Another itemto add to my :"to do " list.

Jess = what a score! I'm glad we will get those tops out there to those who can use them.

Denise, the quilts I have are the red and green blocks from Feb and March, plus the black and white ones from April, so anything with those colors would be fine.

I have one red that is a twin and one green that is a twin, otherwise the rest are all lap size and the exact measurements escape me at the moment but they're listed on the snug thread. I would add in at least a 6 inch border on them for good measure.

Jess, I'll send a little $$ to help with the cost of batting for the tops you'll be getting.  Can't wait for pics of your new toy and the tops.         Sandy

Ladies - Just an update -

I got several of these already, and took pics. Haven't uploaded them yet. She sent me another big box and it is at the post office, will pick it up tomorrow. What I plan to do is take pics and sizes of each one, and then ask for backings. I have some stuff here in my stash and that Mom donated that I can start with, but there are more than 14 tops here I think.

Batting - I can get it for wholesale prices and resale it to myself (paying the tax of course) at cost. This will make it easier (er... cheaper!) for me to get batting. I got some cash from lovely Ms. Sandy, but I still need to save a bit more before I can buy a big roll. Anywho, I am working on that.

Will try to post some pics soon!!

hey Jess, please let me know what you can get the batting for. I've got a VIP discount at Joanns plus 40% coupons that I usually use but it still starts adding up. I need to just go get a big roll, since I've been using so much of it lately. I'll look to see what it comes out to per yard as I'm buying it now.

Jess, maybe some of the fabric companies would donate towards the backings. They may have bolts of "last year's" fabrics left that they would like to unload. It couldn't hurt to ask!

It's a good thought Donna. Anyone want to take that on? With the baby coming any day, I don't want to start corresponding with fabric companies about this then just vanish for a couple of weeks. So if anyone wants to take point on getting some donations from fabric companies, please let me know.

Denise - I got the new box yesterday, but haven't opened it up. Let me take pics of the new tops she sent and do some measuring of tops. That way, I can post pics and measurements at the same time and everyone can look for backings in their stash. Sorry, just haven't gotten around to it yet!

Going to start quilting these babies soon! When I start getting them out for quilting, I will post sizes for the backings I don't already have.

Aren't they awesome???

I am starting to get to these now. Here is the first that I have completed. I used a fleece backing (no batting) that says I love Mommy and Daddy. I quilted big loopy flowers on each nine-patch, hoping that it would help distinguish the individual blocks a bit. This is a baby quilt and will go to the Native American Reservation. I have another I am about to start for Harmony Home. I am going to try to use my fleece and flannel stashes that are just collecting dust for the backing and batting. I also have the Larry Marshall quilt and will put it on the machine soon. I want to practice a bit more today, and then I will do a nice pantagraph on that one that goes to his wife. Anywho...
