Hello Agnes,

That sounds wonderful! I know I would enjoy wrapping myself up in it, it's going to be a good size and I love your idea of giving it depth with the batting and bows. I can't wait to see it when it is finished, you've inspired me to get back to mine. I've been having time off from quilting while I do an embroidery of an embellished Indian elepahant - it's been sitting in it's hoop for too long it deserves to be finishes.

Good luck with finding the blue you want

Sue x

Still only the first half of GFG but now with blue border. I like what that bit of blue does for it.

Hi Agnes,

Me too! What a lovely blue batik fabric you've found, it certainly brings out all shades of blue in the other pieces. How big is it going to be when it's finished and have you any plans for it?

Rather than make you go back. Here's what I wrote after I posted the last update.

Finished size will be determined by how far I get before I run out of the green. Flower fabrics is no problem because that is coming from many one yard pieces. I also have off white hexagons cut, ready to go should I decide to ground it that way but I rather doubt I will go that way. It now measures approx 34" x 50 inches. I'm hoping that I have enough green to make it approx 60" long and then use it thrown over the sofa, ready for afternoon naps. In keeping with older methods of finishing I am planning to pillowcase turn and then tie it. Actually I plan to tack little ribbon bows down in the yellow and some of the green hexes and use a fluffy batting so it gives the vision of sinking down in the flower meadow. Idea just struck me that for that vision to be complete I need an outer space (border) of blues for the sky.

Can you believe I didn't go looking for any fabric? I owned one of the printed batiks. The rest were "packing" in a parcel from a quilting fiend. Minimum size was 1 yard, a few were longer. I believe that little parcel added something like 15 yards to my stash. I am using these fabrics in this project and in my bright Phire's Radiance Round Robin. If I get back to that I want to jump in on the Round Robin thread.

I finally started mine! I am using Jinny Beyer's hand piecing techniques with Stamps by Kate to mark the cutting and sewing lines.

I love it! Sooo fun!

Looking good Jess!

I haven't been working a whole lot on mine either, just a little bit here and there.

Jess--Great you got started. I am doing the marking manually before I hand piece. It is soooo relaxing. Tonight, tomorrow at the latest, I should finish another row of flowers on mine. What size are your hexes?

Thanks ladies! I am having fun with them. We had a movie weekend around here, and I cut and made several more.

Agnes - my hexes are about 1-1/2" finished.

I am using fairy frost fabric for the centers, and fabrics from the 4" swap and the floral swap to do the petals. Sorry for the picture quality, I have been using my phone to take my pics lately.

Love the hexs Jess. Don't you just love the fairy frost fabric. That was the fabric A in the Irish Dance Mystery, the soft sage shade.

Jess--You've been busy. Nice to see the progress. Mine are 3" cuts. I got row 5 done and then did a design change on the edge so I unpicked that and am in the process of getting it redone. Then two more full and one half row to go for the throw.

For those who are "stuck" with making more hexes, check out the right side bar of this blog for some ideas for just a few hex rounds
http://bluebirdquilts-lyn.blogspot.com/2010/04/new-pattern-launch-g... They are cute and good ideas.

Reading a few Dutch/Belgian blogs tonight - and came across this picture. What a different way to use hex flowers! Ingrid, who blogs as Supergoof, made this wallhanging http://supergoof.web-log.nl/photos/t_ooievaarshuis/100_2826.html

I thought you all might enjoy it.

That does add colour and texture to the flower bed. Cute idea, thanks for finding it Gerda
