We would like for all of our Quilter's Give Back quilts to have the same label on the back, so I have designed this label to use. So quilters would you please print these labels onto printable fabric and put one on the back of each finished quilt. If you need me to send you one already printed, just send me a PM. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Jess

Ladies, I am glad you like the labels! It took me a full two hours to do the darn things, but I think they turned out very cute. Please hit me over the head with something if I forgot to mention a region on there....

Done Pat! I went ahead and kept the 2008 label on there for those of you still working on 2008 quilts, but I added the 2009 label as well. You should be good to go!

Thanks Pat, for the reminder!

Hmmm.... Wonder why I did not have Australia on 2008? Midge usually doesn't send blocks each month, but she did donate an entire quilt top... ah, well. She is on 2009. Good eye Sally!

Good afternoon!  So, I forgot to upload these earlier, but here are the Quilts of Valor labels.  The red type is for quilts going to QOV Canada.  The blue type is for those going to the U.S. or U.K.  I still haven't found a similar organization in Australia (so if anyone there knows of one, please speak up!).

QOV requires that the label say who quilted it so that blank is for writing in the longarmer or quilter's name.  The Date Completed is for putting in the time it took to do the quilt from start to finish OR just the finish date.  The pattern used is also requested by QOV to help the recipient learn more about quilting.  Presented To can be left blank if it is going to go to QOV and we need to request a recipient OR could be filled in with the name of someone we know is going to receive the specific quilt.

Let me know if there's anything on the label that you think we should change.  I did not put a year (2009, 2010, etc.) so that we could use the label over and over.  I am still working on getting the blue to go 4 to a page, but Canada is ready to go!  Laura

P.S.  OK, so now the BLUE for UK and US has been redone, and I've manipulated it through Publisher into PDF into Word and back to PDF with a file reduction to get it down to below 100K.  Hopefully these will work for everybody!

Here's a note posted by Denise in the QOV thread.  Thought I'd bring her news about labels into this one.  Sandy
Label paper score!!!!
I have wonderful news
!
One of my parents at school runs an in-home day care.  Not long ago, she brought in about 8 reams of paper, "just because"... seems someone gave her three boxes of misc. paper... and she wanted to share....  When we opened up the first wrapped ream, I noticed how slick it was.... and when I turned it over, it says "HP Invent" on the back, with iron on instructions.   no other label on the ream, no further instructions... this ream is probably 300 sheets.

I had a meeting with this parent the other day, and she had one of the little girls from daycare with her.. so we got out the markers and paper.  I asked her if it was iron on transfer paper,  and she said... "I don't know... what do you use that for?"

I explained that I was a quilter.... and that we do quilts for charity. That each quilt gets a label....  but the paper to print them on is expensive... so would she mind if I took a few sheets home to test them.   "Take a ream, and if it works, I"ll look to see what else is in the boxes."   This mom truly thought that this was just regular copy paper, and had no idea that iron on sheets cost an arm and a leg.

I just tested one... and it works beautifully!   I am sending a set of large and small QOV labels to Sandy..... all printed, and ready to iron on to fabric.   I'll also put some in the mail to Cindy..... and who else needs a label or two for QOV?   I'll be happy to supply any printed labels for these projects... *pine ridge and harmony house too!"  until the paper runs out....

Believe me... I'll stop by her house on Monday, to see if she has any more..... before the kids attack it with markers..... LOL

I feel like this is a true gift!   I was just fussing around because I needed to use my 40% off coupon at JoAnns to get some more paper.

And YES... I was able to separate the labels more on the paper so there is plenty of room for seam allowance now.
Denise

My label paper source emailed me today to let me know that she has 12 reams of that paper in her garage... and she'll trade me for regular paper.... I'm going to show her how to use the paper... for a memory quilt or  other projects..... it's the least I can do..... they just returned from a missions trip to Africa... so hopefully she has some pics and I can make her a travel quilt as a momento of their trip....   doing a happy dance in Damascus!

WHOOOHOOOOO denise!!  what a score!!  many thanks to your friend for letting you trade for the paper!

i did get the labels you sent today - many thanks!  the large ones are "backwards", i assume to be ironed onto fabric for using as a label - btw, do i need to do anything more to "set" the labels before i use them?  other than follow the directions on the back of the paper?

and the small ones were NOT backwards ???

Cindy.... here are the basic instructions I found on-line  .... no mention of any other processing needed..... remember, these reams were totally unmarked.....

How many small labels did I send you?  one sheet?  or two.....  I may have sent you my first set of samples.... where I didn't flip to the mirror image.... If you need more... I'll be happy to send some to you....

How Does Invent It Transfer Paper Work

  • Apply heat to the opposite side of the image, which is the backside of the paper. The heat allows the transfer layer to melt. The melting process is how the image is transferred to the receiving material. Remove the paper after it has cooled to prevent the image from peeling and sticking on the paper.

Process

  • Place the image to be transferred on the fabric in the desired location. Preheat an iron to the cotton setting. Place the preheated iron on the back of the Invent It Transfer sheet. Begin at one corner and let the iron sit on the transfer sheet for 15 seconds to 2 minutes. Move parallel across the paper and repeat the heating process.

Do a second pass of the iron across the paper working diagonally this time. Make sure to cover the entire Invent It Transfer Sheet to provide adequate heat to transfer the image.

Let the image cool completely before removing the transfer sheet paper. Lift one corner while carefully pealing the paper off the image. Watch for any area that may be sticking. If an area is sticking, place the Invent It Transfer Sheet back down and repeat the heating process to transfer the image.

Advantages to Other Transfer Sheets

  • Invent It Transfer Sheets provide an improved ironing process that betters image transfer quality and lessens the cracking of the design when washed.

A pre-transfer step can be used for large images. Apply the heat to the image 10 seconds in each area prior to starting the normal heating process to help the image stay in place.

thanks for the wonderful instructions, denise!

you sent 3 large labels (1 1/2 sheets) and 3 small labels (3/4 sheet).  no need to send any replacements until there is a need for them.  i'll keep these "non-backwards" small labels - just in case we figure out a use for them - altho i got to admit, for the life of me i can't think of how we would use them, but "waste not, want not" right?

Cindy... I have 4000 sheets of that paper sitting here in my office at work... and another 750 sheets at home...  so don't worry about  throwing away 1  sheet of backwards labels that we can't iron onto something... I guess... you could use them as test labels to see how easy they work......

i just made my first "test" label using your transfer paper, denise.  (i know, i know it's about time   . . . but i digress . . . ) i used one of the "backwards" labels   it looks good, was quite easy really and didn't take too very long to cool at all.  the paper backing peeled off extremely easy - i am sure the cooling is very key to that .  have you made one yet?  and perhaps washed the quilt with the label to see how it does?  just curious . . .

Cindy.... I have washed a quilt with one of these labels, and it looked ok when it came out of the dryer.    Cooling off is the key.   I just made four 6 1/2" cornerstones for Milica's nephew's QOV last night.  and the color looked great!   I should have taken a pic before I stuffed them in an envelope heading for Sherry's this morning.

denise, do you have a pdf of a special QOV label you can send me?  i want to update that for 2013, and i thought i had one, but i can't find the file   sounds like sandy will be needing one soon . . .
