Good Morning Ladies,

Who would be interested in a birthday swap? It takes 12 of us. We each pick a block and color for your birthday usually this is a 12" block. I will host and Cindy is my co-pilot. I will need names addresses and birthdate.  I will compile the master list and get it to everyone. On the month of your birthday you will recieve 12 squishes to make your quilt. Some months there will be no birthday others you might have 2 or 3. I always made these ahead of time and just mailed them close to the birthday. This is a full year commitment but only 12 blocks. If you can not fulfill the duties after you have joined please let us know ASAP so we can put someone else in. I am putting this out there so we can plan before January. Note*** We will make a second group for all the one's still thinking of all  this fun They will be The Quilty Divas***

Remember that blocks are due by the birthdate of the birthday girl, and no later than the end of that month. And please communicate with me and your birthday girl if life starts acting up and their blocks are going to be late.

Our Group will be called the Threadheads after our Tomball Mascot.

Our New Threadheads:

1. Nanci   11/29

Welcome MsMeow just like ole times huh? I kinda remembered your address too, no hurry on the block I will remind everyone as it get closer.  I still never did anything from the kitty blocks I pick from one of the last birthday swaps that was right before the divorce, I found them the other day and remembered yours with the kitty and the picket fence so cute, this is the years to finish all those blocks up. So glad you joined us.

p.s. Can you believe I still have not quilted my thread head there are a few spots to applique yet, just one or 2.  lol she is still on my list too. lol The Tomball girls love her anyway.

Hi Nanci,

The Birthday swap sounds like a lot Of "FUN" !!!

I'd like to join too !!! If it's okay.

I really love the "THREADHEADS" banner you made. Being able to know ahead of time is great for the busey work days, family, pets, etc.

And the :BIRTHDAY GIRL" is gonna have a great quilt to wrap herself in.

I would like to join also. I have done a few of these over the years on a Canadian quilting forum (now non-active) and they are so much fun. Give me a couple days to figure out my block and colors.

"threadheads" hehe.

my only reservation is that umm i havent made a whole lot of types of blocks yet
and im not sure how difficult/ complicated they may get??
does that make sense? im not talking to well tonight. must need some sleep,
actually im blaming the antihistamine.

 Trish and Kim,

It would be great if you joined us.   Let me share a little something this is exactly how  I learned to prefect my skills. I did several swaps on another forum , I made blocks I did not like or so I thought, it got me out of my comfort zone and then once they were made they were great. It was a great learning experience. And we are hear if you need pointers too.  So please join us. Just email me your info.

dorian, i don't see where thelma has a sign-up deadline - she wasn't going to send out everyone's chosen block and colors until closer to the first of the year.  i know that she does want to get a 2nd group going . . .

so hopefully some more will play along and make a second group??

come on y'all!!!!  who wants to be a Quilty Diva with dorian??     all it takes is one block per birthday . . . there will be a few months with more than one birthday, but only one block per person

love to have you, barb!!    just PM your address and birthday to nancy now and then let her know what block you choose and your colors/themes when you choose them

ok now, who else wants to play??  year-long commitment but actually minimal sewing each month, depending on who has birthdays that month swaps don't get easier than that

I would love to make a larger quilt and get blocks from both groups.  So if somebody from group #1 wants to move over to group #2 I will join both groups.

I would be more than happy if it was one bigger group rather than two - afterall we only have to make one block per birthday person.

Just saying .......

denise, no need to "switch" groups if you only want to do one group . . . or do you mean you want to join both groups?   it's been a lonnnnnnnnnnnng weekend, i'm thinking i may be getting a bit "addle-brained"

and tiffaney, you definitely want to do both groups too?  milica?

Cindy... I only want to commit to one group...  Currently,  I'm in group 1.  Tiffany is in group 2.... and  she would like to be in both group 1 and group 2..... It doesn't matter to me, which group I'm in..... and if I move to group 2... tiffany could take my spot in group 1 and be in group 2 as well.   Clear as mud?

Denise ...it is clear..I get it...lol

That would be cool...there isnt anyone for the month of Jan in this group.....it is shaping up neat.

I still like the two groups....to me 11 blocks is much easier for me than doing a possible 23 ....but then that is me.

gotcha, denise

i didn't mean to start anything - i like there being 2 separate groups - i just got to thinking that it would be nice to have "matching" gramma/grand-darling lap quilts as wren & i often lay on the couch together and watch movies, so that is why i decided to join both groups.

I think it's cool to join both too. I'm all for it for any of you that want too.

My thinking was I would like to stay in one group as I know I can handle 11 blocks going out......it was scary for me to think if we were one big group....to have that many more to make. Might sound silly but I'm just getting back into the swing.

I do hope we can get enough....and Cindy it is a super idea and same for Tiffaney.....I welcome you dedicated quilters and trying to help make the 2nd group a go.

Hopefully I didn't stitch on anyones fingers......after all that come on girlies we only need a few more to make this a go....sign up soon....please...lol

Kidsrn,

The Birthday Swap is a great way for you learn different how to make the different blocks.  This shows you how simple or how difficult they can be.  I'm still in the learning process, too. So your not out there alone.  If you find your elf running into difficulty, I'm sure one of these great ladies or I will help you.

Happy sewing!!

You are right Gina these kind of swap are a great way to master skills. I have made blocks in the past thinking they are way off my comfort zone and after they were done I wanted to make more.

And yes if you would like to join the second group I will put ya down.

Nanci,

Sign me up for the 2nd group or large group what ever works well with all our members.

During some of the block swaps I did over the years. I truly came across blocks that I thought I would never be able to make. But with patience and my handy seam ripper, I did overcome the fear and they actually looked nice.

Since I starting the quilting adventure, I was always stuck on batiks. I had to learn to come out of my comfort zone and broaden my herizon. Secretly I'm still in love with batiks.

My husband gave me Judy Neighmer,s Double wedding ring. Been working on that and I'm in love with it. If I only had more time and could sew faster. I'm excited to see the out come. At night I work on all the flowers that need to be appliqued on later. It is coming out beautifuly.

Let me know what everyone decides and I'm in.

Have a great day!!!

Gina

Donna,
I will try to post pics, not very good at that yet. But I am determined to master that art to. I took Carol Doak's paper piecing class in Hershy at the show they have, the end of July. It's a great time,

Happy sewing.

thelma, i have moved denise to Group 2 & added tiffaney to Group 1 & added gina to Group 2, which makes tiffaney & gina in both groups.

that leaves 4 slots open in Group 2 who else wants to play?

gina, i can't wait to see your project too!  we all eye candy!

donna, that would be nice to have a "visual" lesson on paper-piecing

Donna,

I loved Carol Doak's class as well.  She is so easy going.  I learned a lot from that class.  I would someday like to meet up with her again.  Like one of her cruise's she does.  That would be a blast !!  She really is a great teacher.

Happy Sewing!!

The Birthday group change is fine with me.  I'll wait for Nanci to post everything for the swap.

I also, would be glad to post a pic of my eye candy.  But I'm still in the process of trying to post pictures.  Hopefully, I will figure it out.

If my children would slow down a little and give me 10 minutes of their precious time.  Maybe, one of them can help me post the pictures. Happy sewing!!  Gina

lynn, you need to check out the first post of this thread   it'll tell you what you need to know to participate in the swap.  but for a quick recap:

Who would be interested in a birthday swap? It takes 12 of us. We each pick a block and color for your birthday usually this is a 12" block. I will host and Cindy is my co-pilot. I will need names addresses and birthdate. I will compile the master list and get it to everyone. On the month of your birthday you will recieve 12 squishes (actually you will make one block for yourself and receive 11 blocks in the mail  ) to make your quilt. Some months there will be no birthday others you might have 2 or 3. I always made these ahead of time and just mailed them close to the birthday. This is a full year commitment but only 12 blocks.

you'll need to send a PM to nanci "Kailee'sMamie'" (just click on her name there on the left of the first post of the thread) and let her know what 12" finished block you want, what colors you want everyone to use, your mailing address and of course your birthday!  once nanci has everyone's chosen blocks/colors/info, she will send out the list to each group.    fun fun fun!!

Hi Nanci,

I sent you a pm with my e-mail address. I also, will send it to you via e-mail if needed. Next week if I'm not on as much, I'm sure Cherie will keep me posted.

My husband's sister is going in the hospital on Tuesday for brain surgery. All prayers would be greatly appreciated.

This year has been so trying for so many of us.

I know for the Potter family it has.

I have seen just about every hospital waiting room, cafeiteria, and chapel in South Jersey and Philadelphia. We have spent so much time in hospitals this year with several family members for serious conditions. We can not take any more. I do not wish time to go, but I am looking forward to a bright 2013.

I injured my back 7 years ago at work, and have several herniated disc bone on bone. With all the stress of family members going in and out of the hospital, the stress goes to my back creating more pain than I normally have.

For some reason, my husband and I seem to be the only one's who can put our emotions a side and help make the right decision for that individual.

We have had a weekend get away planned since April and have had to cancel it so many times this year I can't count. I really think it's an April fools joke that's lasted an entire year.

If there is anything I need to know and I'm unable to come on to the site. Cherie will keep me posted and send me a text.

Gina

Happy Sewing!!!!

P.S. Don't worry BD Girls, I will get your blocks to you.

Hey gina,

Hang in there sending prayers for you and yours. Take it easy on yourself, and take your break with hubby, ya can't help them if y'all fall apart. I got your email and resent the updated list to everyone and sent another one in PDF format if that helps y'all.

Sending healing prayers.
