There is 1 address correction on page 4. Sherry's town is: Fouke.

Hi Everyone!

I'm trying to get  Our Christmas Card and Favorite Holiday Recipe Swap organized.

I will take sign-ups until the 20th of November (I know this is kind of short, but we need this date to allow enough time to get cards to and from overseas).  I will send out a list of addresses to everyone. You will send a card to everyone on the list along with your favorite Holiday Recipe...unless we get tons signing up, then I will split up the lists so everyone can keep the postage costs down.

I'm not talking a homemade card (unless you want) so it shouldn't take much time to fullfill this swap. I know I'm always looking for different recipes to try over the Holidays. I get tired of the same old ones I've cooked from for years! I would love to get a mailbox full of cards in time for the Holidays from all over the world!

If you are interested in this please post here and then PM me your mailing address (even if you think I already have it...I want to make sure it's correct!!) and I will compile a list and send out to everyone when it's about time to send them out.

I've updated the first post of this thread. But PLEASE PM me your addresses! I have been making a new list of addresses up for this years swap. (Mainly because I can't find last years sheet with the addresses on it. Dumb computers!

Okay, I have everyone added. Now I have a question for you all. How big of groups do you want to make? Or do you want to send a card to everyone who signs up? So far we have 15 signed up. Maybe break them up into groups of 10? Help!!

Let me know...

Just as an FYI, the Postal Service recommends that international mail to Europe, Canada, and Australia and New Zealand should be sent by December 11 to make sure it's delivered by Christmas.

LOL Gerda!!! I won't send out the list until just after the 20th. I want to give everyone a chance to sign up if they want.

I got a PM from Jennifer asking about the recipe cards. I'm going to answer here and well as in the PM to Jennifer. They can be on anything you want to use. 3 x 5 cards, 4 x 6 cards or just printed up on a slip of paper. I found some really cute Holiday recipe cards online (freebies!!) that I'm going to use. I had my DH print them for me at work on card stock. I made mine 3 x 5 because that is the size of my recipe box, but they also had 4 x 6 sizes. I just did a Google search for free recipe cards. There were some really cute ones and not just for the Holidays.

Anyway, look for the list the first of next week.

Remember, there is still time to sign up. You get some really great recipes!! Yum, Yum!!

Thanks, Jami! I get myself into jams (like too much going on/too much to do, at the same time - self inflicted, I might add LOL) and I just don't know if I'm coming or going - shucks, one of these days, I might just meet myself!

I look forward to the list! Still need to find a recipe - now if only I could remember which one I sent last year! Cindy, you're not the only one puzzling over it!

Going to look for cards online - thanks for that heads-up, too, Jami!

Bought my cards today, and some Christmas paper to print my recipe on - as soon as Thanksgiving is over and the mess cleaned up, I'll get started addressing cards!  This is gonna be so much fun!!

Could one of you ladies who were in the previous card swap, let me know which recipe I sent? My paper had a little Dutch girl on it.

Many thanks!!

Whoopie!  Got my first card today - from Betty Jo!  Have a question tho', Betty - what is the name of the recipe you sent?  I assume it's a cookie recipe, but would love to have the name of it.

My cards are addressed and ready to be mailed.  Will head to the P.O. in the morning.

Quick question here - would anyone prefer a sugar free (ie diabetic) recipe? I ask because I know one of you can't have sugar, and I came across a great recipe just now in one of my e-mails. Please either post here or PM me - thanks!!

Okay, here is my excuse/story...And I'm sticking to it!!!

My Poor Boy, Max...he had surgery to remove some "funny" bumps (everything came back okay...no cancer!!! Yippee!!). He hated me for days afterwards! Our last run to the Vet was this morning...He has an infection in his side from the surgery. Poor, poor boy!

Mine are going out today. Sorry a bit late but they will arrive for christmas.

Jami My staffy dog Rosie had a big lump taken off her neck 8 weeks ago and she was so miserable for a couple of days. It was not cancer either. Thank god. It only took about a week before she was her self again. I hope Max feels better really soon. Could you give him a cuddle from me?

Cheers Jackie.

My cards will be going out today.  Have had them addressed for several days but each time I go to town I forget to take them along!!  No, I don't have any "holiday stress" - Nope - not me!!!

My old Chocolate Lab (a rescue from the street) has several lumps and I really need to get him to the vet soon.  I've heard that if the lump is soft and wiggles when you push on it, it's benign and not cancerous - but still, I'm not taking any chances!  Poor Charlie has been through enough without having cancer yet.

My cards are in the mail!!!  You all got a bonus from me - two recipes instead of one - just couldn't waste the backside of the paper I printed them on, so I put my Mom's (and Dad's) favorite cookie recipe on the back.

And doesn't it figure that the person who works for the Postal Service can't manage to get hers mailed? But we don't have a post office in the building I work in and frankly, it's just been too darn cold to hike over - the nearest one is about 4 blocks away and we've been in the deep freeze for several days now. I promise I'll get it tended to this weekend.

Betty Jo, thanks so much for the lovely card, letter and recipe!! I will definitely be making these - I guess it's mandatory to use butter?? :) I always use margerine, but hey, what's one lb. of butter, huh? I'm really looking forward to getting the rest. Mine will have to go out Monday - I braved the snow covered roads to get some groceries, but it's getting colder by the minute. Didn't get close to a postoffice.

Delia, I'm glad you needed a non-stinky gingerbread man recipe! This is a recipe we make every year... we also use it to make gingerbread houses. We bake it crispier so that it holds up the construction. When we had little ones around, I would make a gingerbread house and fill it with candy and toys then glue on the lid (roof). On Christmas Eve we would let the children break it (kind of like a pinata). We would put it in the center of a table and let the youngest child try first, then work backwards in age. It was always so well "glued" that it took a while for it to come apart. Once the roof was pryed off, they all grabbed the candy and goodies and broke apart the house to eat the cookie. I have pictures of this from almost every year... I think this year I'll put them in an album for the "children" who are all married or grown... some with children of their own!

I received cards from Jenn, Betty Jo, Kim and Annette.. thank you all! The cards and recipes are great... I plan to try them out right away. Betty Jo's "Name of Recipe cookies" will be today. Ok, Betty Jo, what's the REAL name? I'm going to call them Christmas Card cookies for now... they sound wonderful.

I have to tell everyone from some place outside of the US that there may be a problem getting your cards. I had the pile by the door last week, ready to mail out and Al did me a favor and took them to the post office. WELL... he thought they were all US cards so he put one regular stamp on them and put them in the box. I talked to the post office (after I found out what he did) and they said that the cards MAY come back to me OR may be delivered with postage owed. PLEASE LET ME KNOW... I will resend them if they come back but if there is something owed I'll send it to you. Of course, Al is NOT allowed to touch my mail from now on!

Oh Deb, my DH helped mail out things too. lol I asked him to mail 5 cards, but he also put one stamp on them and out they went. I'm so sorry ladies. He was told they were overseas, but claims not to have been told! I just found this all out yesterday as we went Christmas shopping. I'm so embarrassed, but please let me know how I can make it up to all of you.

Okay, so here's my list of the card I have gotten since the beginning. I've kept up with it but haven't had time to post til now, so some of these came much earlier!

Jami, Delia, Betty Jo, Annette, Deb, Jenn, Kim and Milica.

I've sort of lost track of who all I got cards from!  I think the last ones I got were from Milica and Kim.  All the recipes sound wonderful!  Milica, I could have used your recipe a couple years ago when my hubby was still working at the research farm.  I'd often bake 3 or 4 pies and send them in for the guys to enjoy on their coffee break.  Seems that none of the other wives baked much.  A couple of the guys put in a request for home-made mincemeat pie.  I know my Mom used to make it but couldn't find her recipe, so I found one in cookbook.  It turned out pretty good, but not quite like Mom's.  Now yours, Milica, sounds just like the one Mom made.  Trouble is, I'm the only one in our household who likes mincemeat!  Maybe I'll have to give Norm and Doug a call and see if they'd like some mincemeat pie again!  Otherwise, I'll have the eat the entire thing myself!

Most of my Christmas cards/recipes went out in today's mail - there are 5 that I need to repackage as they have squares and strips included (from BC swaps) - the postie said they would each cost me well over $3 to mail!! I nearly fainted!! Not that you ladies aren't worth it - you are - but my poor bank account!! I think I'll mail them in separate envelopes, I'd save more than $1 each! Post office - huh, bunch of rip-off artists, I tell ya! And our rates are going up AGAIN come January 1! Grrrrr! I will have those out Friday at the latest!

Oh, and I received a card and recipe from Kim today - thanks, Kim! It looks interesting and yummy but I have a strong feeling I'd never get anyone in this family to even try it! But you never know!

Sherry, those cookies were my dad's favorites, but about the only time mom made them was at Christmas.  As a kid, I hated them!  Didn't like dates, and mom always used black walnuts, which I'm not crazy about - they just have too strong a flavor for me.  When I got older I discovered that dates are actually quite tasty, and when I make the cookies I use either English walnuts or pecans.  My hubby loves them too.

Nola, those have always been my favorite Christmas cookies. Mom started making them when I was small and she would have to wrap a box of them and put under the tree so that there would be some left when Christmas got here! But there were 6 of us kids back then and things like that didn't last long around the house!

With Mom gone it just always makes me feel like she's here at Christmas when I make them. Special memories, ya know?

Sorry it's a recipe that you already have, but I am glad it's one that you grew to like any way! I don't think mom ever used walnuts. At Christmas time Daddy would always buy a big bag of pecans, to be shelled of course! Or if he could find a tree that we could go pick them up for free he would take all of us kids and we would go pick them up. And that's why she always used pecans. 2 birds with 1 stone kind of thing. Not much money back then.

Dorian I got your precious card yesterday. Thanks for the recipes too!

Gilly, I'm so happy to hear it made it and no problems... that's one down! Hope the rest do as well. Nothing has been returned yet...

We didnt get mail delivered for two days because of the bad storm we've been having up here. It's been COLD, snowing, blowing and white-out conditions. Al tried to get out yesterday and got stuck in the driveway. We just about get it all plowed and it blows right back... then the city snow plows drive by and WHOOSH.. another 2 foot in the driveway! And the mailbox is smashed up a bit. It's amazing the strength that the snow has when it's being thrown by a snow plow driving 40 or more miles an hour. We built our mailbox POSTS out of FOUR 4x6's to withstand this winter beating...the posts are holding up but the mailbox is caving in.
ANYWAYS, yesterday we got the road cleared for about 15 minutes, got mail delivered then ... WHOOSH ... another pile of snow delivered on top of it. AT LEAST WE GOT MAIL!! I dug out the box and found a nice bunch of Christmas cards from Cindy, Sherry and Dorian. It was so nice to get back in the warm house and have all these nice letters and recipes to go through. Thank you all!

Well I got a few more cards yesterday! Dh told me when I got home from work "Man, it must be nice to be loved!"  I have been getting lots of mail and I think he's enjoying it as much as I am! He must know there are recipes in some of these packages!

Any way, Barb, Jackie and Gilly, I got your cards and recipes yesterday! And Gilly, mine is okay! Looks yummy too! Thanks for all the great recipes and letters! I never thought to include a letter with mine! Maybe, now that I have addresses, some time in the future you will get another card from me just to tell you a little about myself and say "Hey!"

Have a great day all!

I've been enjoying the letters too Sherry. Never did think to include one in mine that's a good idea. To get to know some of our friends we don't know much about.

My dh was sitting in the kitchen the other night, reading all my cards. I have them hanging around my bay windows with a Christmas paper chain above them. Looks so pretty. He, also, had nothing but good things to say about my quilty friends. And how lucky I am to have them

Gilly, I received your card and recipe today! Thank you! It sounds like something hubby and one granddaughter might like - do you know if it can be made without the coconut? I don't like coconut, and it makes my throat feel weird.

And I'm looking forward to seeing you join in on some of the fun we have here.

This week I have received cards & recipes from Dorian, Jami, Jackie, Delia, Cindy, Nola, Laura, Gerda, Annette & Deb. The recipes look yummy. I've already made the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey chocolate kiss on top. They were a hit with the peanut butter cookie fans in the family.

I'm glad they got there - hey, on mine, you can substitute vanilla extract for the almond if you don't like/can't have almond. I have also used different jams - just as yummy!

So glad my cards finally made it to a few of you.  The recipe is one from my SIL and I just loved the taste of hers.  We've eaten it many times at their home.  One thing tho, Please leave out the raw egg!!!    I had just copied her recipe without making it first, then when making it for our Christmas dinner, I couldn't believe I'd left that part in.  Sure hope you all see this message and BE SAFE!    Sandy

Jess, I got your card and yummy recipe today. It just so happens I have loads of strawberries in my freezer from a picking trip this past summer. I may have to give this one a try very soon! Thanks!

I have had the most gorgeous time with all these recipes and alas even though I myself can not partake in most of them the family are really enjoying the wonderful array of goodies I think i have now received all my cards but there may be still one I will check later this evening

Yep, it took its sweet ol' time - crazy postal machines! But it got here, that's the main thing.

Okay it may seem strange resurrecting this thread in the middle of july but talk about Christmas in July.

I did not realise I had not received a card from Jess and today in the mail I got a lovely welcome card a recipe card and a Christmas card........nothing unusual except it is in perfect condition and dated and postmarked 22 December 2009 the mind boggles wondering where it has been for nearly 7 months.
