4” Squares for Hexagons Fabric Swap
Hostess – Cindy (misisipimenace)
Co-Hostess - Doreen

Several of us are making the hexagons for our interpretation of a Grandmother’s Flower Garden quilt.  To give each of us more variety in our flower petals, I propose that we swap 4” squares of fabric.
After putting MUCHO thought into this, here is what we have come up with for this swap!

Fabrics are to be 100% cotton ... no thin fabrics, please! All fabrics should be washed and pressed with selvage edges removed.  There will be no specific “theme” for the fabrics – anything that fits in a garden/flower bed is fine - including 30’s repros, solids, floral prints, tonals, etc. Please don’t send batiks or novelties and such which would obviously not go into a flower garden. If you have questions, feel free to post a picture and ask!

A “set” will consist of six (6) 4” squares that are from the same piece of fabric.  This set should be placed into a small baggie and clearly marked with your name and address on the bag.  You may send as many baggies as you wish as long as each baggie contains six (6) squares that are from the same piece of fabric.  You may choose to use the same piece of fabric for several sets with a maximum of 12 baggies with the same print OR you could use one print for each baggie.  This would be a great way to use up your larger scraps!  (Example – I sign up for 15 baggies. I send up to 12 baggies with the same fabric, but as long as each baggie only contains one fabric, I can actually send up to 15 different fabrics since I signed up for 15 baggies.)  Clear as mud?

I will swap baggies exactly baggie for baggie – I will not be swapping the squares individually.

You must include a large envelope with your return address and correct amount of postage ... STAMPS ONLY!    My post office will not accept the pre-dated, prepaid postage stickers that you get at the counter nor at the automated machines that are found in some of the larger post offices now.

International Swappers, you are more than welcome to join this swap!  Just send me a PM (misisipimenace) and we will work out postage cost details between us.

Doreen and I will take sign-ups through Friday, May 15th.  Your swap package containing your sets will need to postmarked by June 15th, but remember that the sooner I receive the sets, the sooner I can swap them!!  I will swap the baggies within two (2) weeks of receiving the last package, which will hopefully be by June 30th.
To sign-up for this swap, just respond to this thread and let me know how many sets you want to commit to.

You will also need to PM the following information to me before your name will be added to the Sign-Up List on the first post of this thread:
Name
Forum Username
Mailing Address
Telephone number and/or Cell phone number
Email addy

Doreen and I are looking forward to this swap and hope you'll join us!!  Also, a Hexagon Quilt-a-Long is being started as well, so please sign up for that project so we can share our hexes and what we make with them with each other!

Thanks!!  Cindy and Doreen

Ok, lets see if I understand....

In 1 baggie, I put six  4" squares of fabric. They can all be the same fabric, or they can all be different (or 2 different, or 3 different) as long as the colors/shades all blend well together...so they look nice together in a flower....right? And all the baggies can be the same, or they can all be different..as long as the fabrics in each bag blend well together.

Now, if I choose scraps, and say I want to make 5 baggies....does the fabric in ALL the bags have to blend together? or can one bag be pastels and other brights?

no dorian - the 6 squares in each baggie must match

if you sign up for 6 sets, then each separate set can be different but the squares inside each baggie should be alike.  each set does not have to blend with another set so yes, you can have pastel in one baggie and bright in another.

Ok, I think the word that threw me was 'match' You are saying that the 6 squares in each baggie should all be from the same piece of fabric, right?

So, go ahead and sign me up for 5 sets please.

Hey, Doreen!! Seeing as you are wanting a totally scrappy look for your hexes, does this look something like what you want? http://www.historyofquilts.com/hexagon_quilt.html

Here's a few ideas for settings/stitching together (some one would need more than 6 identical hexes, but still.....) http://ajpadilla.com/tutorials/reversible-hexagons/samples-hexagon-...

Look what Bonnie Hunter over at quiltville is doing - scrappy but planned! I like it!

Ladies

I found a great website that has lots of different quilt block designs that you can print out the papers and colour in your designs etc but it also has quilt layouts - check out the hexagon one as it gives you different sizes of quilts and sizes of hexagons and even tells you how many hexagons needed to make the quilt top.

Gerda - I plan on stitching my hexagons onto another piece of fabric as an applique if you will.  But I want to see how many flowers I can make with every petal unique.  I will have yellow as the center of my flowers and there will be duplicates there.

Keepsake Quilting offers a package of 200 unique 4" squares that I purchased.  Of course there were some that I did not use (like airplanes, cats, wording etc) but most I used.

What I've started doing is this:  once the circles are cut, I fold the circle in half and make that first hex fold and pin it in place.  I make a big pile of these so once I'm sewing, I don't have to stop to fold.  Power hexing!

Dollar TREE! that is where I get my zippies for swaps.... If they aren't going in the freezer, (and as of yet, I haven't resorted to stashing fabric there), then I purchase the thin, cheap ones.

Cindy,

Count me in also for the swap,, don't know how many sets as of yet, will let you know.

I was in a swap a month or so ago for the 1930's repro fabric, I received 75 5"charms/blocks and not one of them was a duplicate! Imagine that!

Also, what are the ladies talking about regarding the Keepsake quilting 4" squares and circles folded in half.

I really am hooked on Hexagons, but I have learned to make sure all housework is done b4 I sit down. LOL

Linda - Welcome!  Perhaps I can answer your questions.

Cindy has shown us a new way to make hexagons that eliminates the paper and makes it go so much faster.  Her tutorial can be found on the home page of this website under Tutorials.  It's called "Tuna Can Hexagon Flowers."

We have quite a group making hexagons, all with our own ideas as to design.  I am attempting to get as many unique fabrics as I can get so that I have no repeats in my flowers.  So I discovered that Keepsake Quilting (a quilting catalog) offers a package of 200 4" squares that are all unique.  So I ordered that to keep me busy for a while.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Well Ladies so far out of my stash and 5 recent FQ purchases I have been able to get together 28 sets (2 each of 14 diff fabrics) - I have yet to go through another box of fabrics and one of my friends has said that I can go through her stash as well - yippee fabric, lovely fabric.  Will post piccies when I have my final total before I post the squares off to Cindy.

Planning on making a bright cheery lapquilt for my mother out of this.

Wow, Milica!  You are running neck to neck with me!  I raided boxes of fabric today that I haven't looked in for months!  Dragged out armloads of fabric and tossed them in the washer.  Hung some on the old drying rack and tossed the bigger chunks in the dryer.  Have a few of them pressed and cut, and will continue working on them in my spare time.  So far I have 18 sets cut with at least that many more to go, and there is a lot more "stash" to look through!  Don't know yet what I'll make with my sets after the swap, but I'll think of something!

Good afternoon Cindy

I want in on this one. I'm going on a bus trip tomorrow to 4 different quilt shops so I will be on
the lookout for fat quarters. I figure I should be able to get 2 sets out of a fat quarter hopefully.
I'll PM you how many sets I come up with next week and also my info. Now.....wise women of the forum---how many flowers does it take to make a queen size quilt? Also I think this could be a
good way to build up a stash for nine patches....just a thought

Thanks for offering this swap---think will be really fun and interesting

Genia - I saw on another website that it took 1,800 hexagons to make a queen sized quilt.  It was not mentioned the size of the hexagons.

Hope that helps!

Thank you Sally.

I have cut 36 sets so far but I know I still have fabric left over from the sweet sixteen swap and a few odds and sodds of fabric in my stash still to go through.  I have seen a few patterns I would like to make up but intend to use these to make my mother a large lapquilt (and insist that she uses it and not put it away)

Haven't had a chance yet to take pictures but I've cut 50 sets so far and just tossed another armload of fabric in the washer.  Most of this is fabric I've had in totes for years - most are large pieces so I can easily cut off a few squares to share.  Most of mine is small prints with a few solids.

Nola,
Sound like you fabric will be perfect for me--I'm doing my hexies in 30s but cut florals (because they were already washed!) Might just have to cut a few more since I just washed more fabric so I could make blocks for here!

Milica, loved the blue/white diamond hex quilt from your quilt show piccies. Pity I already sewed together sooo many regular flowers!

Sally, can't you just cut a few more hexes in each flower's colours and add them to two opposite sides to make the diamonds? Or would that not look right? I need to check that pic again!

I'm thinking my 12 sets is tooo little - need to do more, once my room is set up - the shoulder/neck is doing a bit better, but still not gone.

I have just gone through my stash and pulled out another 20 fabrics of which I will be able to cut 2 or 3 sets from not counting the sweet sixteen fabrics - wil not post piccies until I am completely done and ready to post!

I'm up to 60 sets so far with quite a few more to press and cut.  Will probably end up with close to 100.  The nice thing about this is, I'm finally getting my fabric stash a tad more organized!

You all are cutting such nice fabrics. I wanted to join but have too much on my plate right now.
I have to tell you I tried the tuna can method yesterday & it works great. Only thing is I made only 5 petals & my thumb started cramping from holding the little hexy. I have always wanted to make a GrandMothers garden, but don't think my thumb could last doing enough to make a quilt.
I'll be following along with you.

Okay, I waited til the last minute but I think I want to join this one too! I got alot of cutting to do this week-end! Glad today is Friday! I'll let ya know how many on Saturday! Don't know that I'll do the quilt along tho. Altho I could use a hand project to work on while I watch tv with dh. After being home by himself all day he doesn't enjoy me going off to the sewing room for long periods of time when I get home. So I have to find a happy medium and this would be good. May have to try the tuna can thing! Now where were those instructions?

Betty Jo, are you still having a difficult time?  If so, perhaps we can walk you through it step by step.  We could set up a time to do that.  Are you using Cindy's tutorial?

Can't believe I almost missed this. Add me to the list please. I will get back with a number in a few days.

This will be the perfect way to get started on this. Cindy, you were kind enough to send me the directions for the tin can method, and I am ashamed to say, I have not had the time to even try it yet.

Another fun project - I love it !!! Gail

ms. pat, i'll be watching the mailbox.

remember everyone - you got til june 15 before you need to have these squares in the mail!  i've pulled some fabrics from my stash, but i haven't done any cutting yet myself

betty jo, just holler if you need any help with these.  if the "tuna can" method is not good for you, you can still use the traditional english paper piecing method.  just whatever works best for you.  please remember tho, we are here to help you with the tuna can method if that's the one you want to learn.

Nola,
Love your new avatar!!! Is that you?

Well, I'd stopped at 40 but now I'm rethinking and plan to cut some more this weekend (I have a large bin full of fabric I've had to wash for the snug blocks, so more to come! Besides, I have to go buy more plastic baggies. You think they would come in boxes of 100 or so!!)

Yes, Sally, the avatar is me at age 5 - was sitting in the side yard at my grandparents' house (now my quilting and craft house).  I remember Mom taking that picture like it was just yesterday - my dress was sort of a pea green color with white polka dots and had white rick-rack trim - the fabric was left over from my grandmother's dress!

Well, I cut another 10 sets today - up to 100 baggies now!  Not sure yet if I'll quit or keep digging out fabric.  This is sure fun - I've found yards of fabric I forgot I had!!

Darling picture! (And very pretty dress.)
Got more baggies from dollar tree (60 sandwich bags, no wonder I ran out!) so will probably cut more this weekend. Does anyone know how many can fit into $4.95 envelope? these 40 look just about right......

Sally  ... my 38 sets would have fit in in the smallest priority envelope ... but my 60 sets would not ... and I used the fold-over sandwich baggies with my label as a closure and squeezed out all the air ... I just could not get the cardboard mailer closed securely ... I had to opt for the tyvek one ... I almost cut it down to 50 sets as I think that would have fit in the small one ... but I had the others cut and bagged and they would have been duplicates for me ... so I just bit the bullet and paid the higher shipping ...

Cindy ... my tracking info says this was delivered to you yesterday ... so you got it and everything was okay with the package?  ...

Dorian - it doesn't matter, you just don't have all the clutter that the rest of us have

I'm a bit like Nola, when I started going through my stash I came across lots of fat quarters I had bought in the past to do scrappy type quilts that qualified for this swap and was also lucky enough to have some friends who donated  odds and sodds of florals that they would never have use for.  I do hold my hands up to buying some FQs too    I think my last count was about 114 sets so I think I will stop at that as the postage is going to be too prohibitive.  Intend to make my mother a nice large lapquilt so it will be spring/summer all year round for her to look at.

Cindy - hope to get these off in  the post to you on Tuesday or Wednesday, really depends on whether I return home from my parents on Monday or Tuesday.

CLUTTER???  FABRIC????  CLUTTER????

MILICA!!!   i am appalled that you would call fabric clutter!!

jacqui, i need to borrow your smelling salts, i feel faint . . .

as a member of Fabriholics Never Anonymous, i sentence you to however many lashes with as many FQs (batik FQS!!!) as it takes to make you amend your opinion - obviously, an intense intervention is called for

in the meantime, i have noted set #s on page 1

Hello everyone,

Here is a pic of my fabric squares for the hexagon swap.

Cindy, you can put me down for 20 sets. I'll let you know when I send them out.

You know how one thing leads to another, well since I have fabric all over the place now, I am going to try and organize my stash a little better. Right now I am cutting up scraps into more usable sizes.
I wonder how long this project will last !

Hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day !!! Gail

Thought of Milica and Cindy yesterday as I cut 6" squares of batiks for my guild swap--you would have loved fondling (and choosing)!

Is anyone doing batik hexes? That would certainly be a modern twist!

Hey, Cindy, is it ok if I wrap mine in Glad Press 'n' Seal? I love this stuff! One can squeeze all the air out, it stays out, and will take less room in a package or envelope. Please let me know - I started cutting late this afternoon, while waiting for the burgers to cook on the BBQ. I think I will have 20 sets - will let you know next week. Thanks.

Oh GOOD - I was hoping they'd get there soon!  Hope they are all OK - I tried to pick out mostly smaller prints - a few solids and some tone on tones.  Had a blast cutting all those little babies!  Hopefully this winter I can stay in by the fireplace and make 100's of hexagons!

Hey Cindy - when you're swapping the fabrics, if you get any that are "questionable", swap them to me.  By questionable I mean, if you see ones that you would never use for a GFG.

I have all kinds of fabrics that I'm using all the way from limes to camouflage and they are all welcome in my quilt one hex at a time!

Doreen, would you like me to send a mixed baggie for you? It would be no problem, I can still send 20 sets to Cindy, I'll just label yours as yours. How's that? Let me know, I won't be getting to the post office until next week.

so very strange that my post from last night appears to have "poofed" I have 50 sets so far but I have more fabric to pull so there might be more.

Like Doreen, I'll be happy to take the stranger ones as well. I'm not going to do a flower garden, but a scrappy hex so I'll take anything :)

I'll have these in the mail to you by the end of the week Cindy since I'm leaving to go out of town Friday.

Here's what the first 50 sets are from:

Hey Gerda - please don't do anything special on my account.  It might make it harder for Cindy when she's sorting for the swap.  But thanks for thinking of me!

Jen - do I see fabric with hexagons on it?  Hexagons made out of hexagons!

Pat - is your back feeling better?  Was that shop in Lowell?  Is it still selling out?  Might make a road trip

lol Doreen you are correct! That is fabric from a costume I had when i was about 12. I sang country music in that one :) I still have about 2 yards of it so thought it could be put to use!

Jenn ... love the "hexagons" fabric ...

Cindy ... I am cutting more 4" squares today ...

Doreen ... the LQS that is moving is in Pelham, NH, and is called "Bits and Pieces" ... just over the state line and about 15 minutes from my house ...

Here is their website ... (which really needs to be updated ... obviously they have been focusing on moving and she has been a vendor at many nearby quilt shows this spring, even two on the same weekend ... she is a very hard worker) ...

http://www.bnpquilts.com/about.html

and here is a map ...

http://www.bnpquilts.com/map.html

I think you would be reaching it off an exit off of 93 North, but I do not know which one, as I obviously always take the local roads. It can also be reached by taking the Route 38 exit off of 495 North, but you would have to drive north through downtown Lowell.

On Saturday Liz, the owner, told me that she would be sending out an email to her newsletter list advertising her moving sale. So sign up for her newsletter and you will start getting notices of her weekend sales, too. This is the place that regularly has 25 fat quarters for $25 ... and tons to chose from, including new arrivals.

Her lease is not up until mid-July at her old shop so she is using it to clear extra inventory.  They had a lot of bolts still there on Saturday and pickings were good. The new shop is diagonally across the street from her old shop and both are open. I do not know if both shops are open all the hours listed. I imagine that would depend on her help.  On Saturday, I caught her at a time when she was emptying a load from her truck and when I told her that I had come to shop the sales, she went over and opened the old shop up for me and two other shoppers followed us across the street.

It is so nice to see a local fabric store thriving and expanding right now ...   Pat

Cindy, my 20 sets are on their way south! Oh, oh, I think I forgot to include a return envelope!! Oops! Can you maybe just glue/tape a sheet of paper over the front and send that one back my way? Re-use, recycle, y'know?? Oh, I did remember to add the blocks and strip sets for the baby quilt for Sherry?

OK, It's time for Fons and Porter, then try to finish Nancy's tablerunner's quilting. Supper is ready - I made a large potato salad with eggs on the side - yummy!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing what comes back :) I kept enough to make at least a few hexes from the fabrics I sent so I should have a good variety of fabrics to make something scrappy :)

Cindy I ran out of time to go through the rest of my stash and pull out fabrics, but I'd be up for doing another swap of these if anyone else is interested :D

I've still got fabric if you decide to do another swap!!!However the resident fabric cutter in the
house is rolling her eyeballs!!!!lAny chance of if there is another swap of letting batiks be allowed--
I'm thinking of doing a second row around my flowers that will strictly be batiks. Also instead of
just having 6 squares in a baggie of having 12 squares in the baggie---that way if you do a
second row you don't have to make it scrappy. Just thoughts.

I'd go for Batiks also.  I use them regularly when I'm making appliqued flowers - love the varigations in colors you get with batiks - makes the flowers and leaves look a bit more natural - in my opinion.

I don't know who to blame for this, so I guess it is all of you. After you all were sending pics, etc., I decided those were pretty cute and started making some hexagons. Well, now that seems to be my evening hand work. So it is all of your fault that I have a new obsession.

Heeheeheeeee!! Glad to be an enabler/enticer, Rosie!!! and happy to take some of the blame.

I cut my template today, that's as far as I have gotten - still trying to decide which method I want to use - and to top that off, I received a couple of mini basket patterns today for hand piecing, also have bowties and drunkard's path minis, etc. etc. For now, my handwork evenings will be the redwork blocks, and then applique blocks for the Sunbonnet Sue swap over on Block Central. I get myself into TOOOOO many things at once.

Glad it got there, Cindy. YOu go right ahead and fondle, just don't have sticky fingers when you do.

I am still deciding on whether to go traditional hexes or the tuna can way - good thing I have lots to get done before I allow myself the pleasure of hexes!!

That's for you for postage as well - wasn't sure how much to include. I just KNEW you'd like the purples - now just HOW DID I KNOW THAT??!!?? I think we need to start calling you the purple lady! I don't think Ferrellee would mind another one. Enjoy, sweetie!

the swapping has begun . . . but y'all, i am having a bit of a problem with avoiding duplicates.

the deal is this:  we have a total of 20 swappers and a total of 1,111 sets (yes, you read that right:  one thousand one hundred eleven sets).  of these 20 swappers and 1,111 sets - 6 swappers had 717 of these sets, each one with over 100 sets each.

the remaining 14 swappers account for the other 394 sets - each of these ladies had 50 or less sets in their respective packages.

SOOOOOOO . . .
i'm afraid duplicates will be impossible to avoid for these 6 "high rollers" and i hope that is ok.

i am putting these packages aside for the afternoon - i have been swapping since 7:30 this morning.  i'll check the larger packages again tonight and see if i can "swap" a little more without giving someone back their own sets . . .

Rosie, looking great! Yes, just keep going until an idea pops in your head! Maybe come August, I can start on these - IF I get some of these WIPs done/finished. So I'd best get to them. I really like your setting.

I'll be happy with whatever you send :) I don't think I'm going to use them for a GFG but do scrappy hexes together so it will either have a watercolor effect or just random, I haven't decided yet.

I'd like to do another swap for these, if anyone is interested--is anyone else up for one? I'll be happy to host.

Hey ladies although I am not in this swap I think the tutorial for the tuna can is wonderful. I have been looking for a template for this but will be using the tuna method. I take it you could adjust the size of these hexagons to any can size huh? Darlene

Darlene- if you want a 1' finished hexie, you use a 2" circle. 2" finished, a 4" circle. just double it.

I've been using my olfa circle cutter.... it makes circles really fast! I cut out about 40 last night in about 15 minutes.

Stitched 20 more today while traveling home.

Mine came yesterday while I was out of town! My darling gs just had to call me and tell me, "Mamaw, You got a squishy today!" I love the way he says squishy! It's precious! He's only 2 1/2. But he just couldn't wait to tell me! He gets sooo excited. Then when he got home with his mom and she checked the mail, he said "Mommy, you got a squishy too? Is it a big one like Mamaw's?" Nikki won favorite blocks on BC! He's just tooo cute!

hey y'all!  glad to hear everyone is happy with their squares!

i did not make it to the post office friday with my 2 canadian and 1 UK package . . . nor with cherie's, dorian's, denise's and ms. pat's, as they needed either postage or delivery confirmation fee paid . . . anyways, i made a trip to MS (nope sorry no baby yet - but i did take wren home to her momma, she was missing momma  gonna miss my grandarlin') and i had hoped to get them mailed at the b'vlle post office but apparently they stopped saturday morning window hours!  i had NO clue about this!  so will get them in the mail tomorrow, ladies.  i do apologize about the delay - it's been hectic and hopefully this week will get back to normal!

Cindy - thanks for the update....not to worry... I suspect that the colors of the swap squares won't work for the hexagons I'm working on right now.... I'm working with autumn colors of browns, rusts, golds, and beige. I'll save those lovely flower colors for another project down the road.

Not to worry about not mailing mine yet.  I asked for the delivery confirmation number and anyhow, I still have plenty of squares to cut into circles and sew into hexs ...

Just gives me something to look forward to receiving in the mail ...

Cindy, I had mine when I got back from moms. And...more exciting news...will be going back in August to look for a realtor and house. We are moving back to GA. YEAH!!! Might be a while with the housing market and jobs, but it is a sure thing. John wants the kids growing up around family. I am so excited I could bust.

Nope. Out towards Villa Rica. Didn't you hear me fly by on I20 headed out that way. LOL Had a blast. Me and John went all the way out to Alabama looking at property. Bowdon is a very nice area. But, I really like the Villa Rica and Temple area. Not sure just yet. Guess I will see when I get back down there. Can't wait. Mom doesn't know I am coming back. She thought it would be in Sept. or Oct. hehehe...love those surprises.

LOL...Cindy, believe me I do not travel north on 20 either. Mainly due to traffic...how can that be when I will drive in DC traffic??? I would love to get away from the Douglasville area. John is looking more toward Temple to Bowdon. He is looking in the Atlanta area for a job. This is the hard part of moving. Finding a job in this economy.

LOL Milica, I've made a whopping TWO flowers, plus 6 or 7 'petals'. I have just been working on these when I go up to Manton on Sundays. So haven't put in much time with them.

Received my lovely squares also! I want to start making hexagons, but need to finish other projects first. I'm one of those people that has to finish projects before I can start another. What is wrong with me!LOL

Susie, I for one would love to be that dedicated to one project at a time, but alas, I was not blessed with that gene! I see wayyy too many projects I want to try - guess you could call me a block 'n' top collector!!

Susie I would go nuts! I start way more than I ever finish, and have even more waiting that I'll probably never even get to, but I wouldn't have it any other way. There's always something to occupy my interests when one project starts losing my attention. That way I can come back to it later with fresh perspective and (hopefully) more inspiration. :)

....at least thats how I attempt to rationalize having so many things going on at once.

Hey y'all - I was terribly rude and never posted the pic of my 4" hexes. Here you go... these are the ones that I sent in. Thinking I may take the fabulous ones I got in return to the hospital with me so I can play some in the downtime. Since I don't sleep so well anyway (and I started that when I had Sammy) I figure I might like to have something just for me to work on... especially since I am making this quilt for my Sapphy Jean!

Hey, ladies! I posted about this on BC, and now here - here's another idea for hexies, should you so desire - I LOVE IT!! If you scroll all the way to the bottom, the second last post - check it out!

Gerda, thanks, awesome quilts. Since the hexie quilt is before she started also posting in English, is the center 'diamond' one piece of fabric?

Yes, it seems to be - I think she started making this before she started blogging in mid February 2008. It looks to me like she appliqued on top of separate diamonds - I noticed that some of the centre diamonds are very floofy - they aren't flat - what I will/would be doing is making a panel of fabric from different diamonds, and appliqueing the hexies on top. She doesn't really say how she did it, but it seems simple enough to me.

I also have seen a Great Hexagon swap going on on a couple of blogs - many are just the rings with the centre open. I've done some checking, but never found out why they were making them like this. Kinda neat idea, though.

Does anyone know how to do other shapes like diamonds or triangles an easy way without using templetes? I have never tried templetes, but doing hexies this way is so easy, I would like to try some other shapes an easy way.
